around $1000 on amazon seems like a nice deal for a very capable laptop.
perfect for 1080p gaming,
only downside , no gsync.

Wait for laptops with GTX 1660Ti. It seems to be just 10% inferior to RTX 2060, just great for 1080p 60fps gaming at ultra. New Aero 15 with 1660Ti is priced at $1800. There are some new Asus laptop coming out with 74Wh battery or so, they might have good battery life as well.
This one might turn out to be a great value if thermals & battery life are good:

$1100, 8gb ram (prob single channel so get another 8gb), 512gb nvme ssd, 120hz. 1660ti is 80w tdp, max q model according to nbc: https://www.notebookcheck.net/3DMark-Time-Spy-benchmark-pits-Asus-FX505DU-with-GeForce-GTX-1660-Ti-against-Asus-GU502DU-with-GeForce-GTX-1660-Ti-Max-Q.418979.0.html
If it is a max q then it will probably be around 10% slower than a 2060/1660ti since those two are essentially the same based on initial benchmarks
I would go with the pavilion from a usability standpoint unless you want to wait a little under a month for the new specs. But don't get the fx505 if you want a more up to date laptop with the same specs... Get the ROG Zephyrus G it's much better than both

same problem here bro, very frustrated, i stuck between this models if you like considerate, and go more crazy:
Matebook x pro but... the screen size...
Asus zennbook but.. the keyborad distribution
Msi PS63 moderm but.. the low screen nit
New Asus zephyrus G very good price but.. the battery
like you say XPS look a good option, but the issues... i plan wait for the new XPS series, but no release date confirm
> Windows computer for when I want to play a game not available on MacOs (which is often)
Basic games will run via Bootcamp on Mac - you can install Windows alongside Mac.
But for any serious graphic performance, a Windows oriented PC would be better.
This depends on the graphic quality settings and FPS you intend to achieve.
The game seems to be able to run minimum on very old desktop hardware by now. Bare minimum graphics required:
https://benchmarks.ul.com/compare/best-gpus?search=650%20ti
Which are comparable to entry level laptops today.
It seems there are two versions of the Surface 3 15" with Ryzen:
> AMD Ryzen™ 5 3580U Mobile Processor with Radeon™ Vega 9 Graphics Microsoft Surface® Edition
> AMD Ryzen™ 7 3780U Mobile Processor with Radeon™ RX Vega 11 Graphics Microsoft Surface® Edition
The RX Vega 11 is just within minimum requirement reach, so I wouldn't expect much of the Vega 9:
https://benchmarks.ul.com/compare/best-gpus?search=vega%2011
If you had problem with performance and stutter, then you may need to limit the FPS to 30.
For this performance, this seems to cost $2k from Microsoft's store. That is a rip off.
You can find this level of performance in most ~$600 laptops.
> Asus ZenBook Pro Duo
This is going to the extreme in the other direction, with very good hardware specifications.
The ZenBook Pro Duo UX581GV will have absolutely no problem:
(see "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (Notebook)"): https://benchmarks.ul.com/compare/best-gpus?search=2060
On Amazon.com, this seems to be a $2,500 laptop.
Are you really going to require the Pro Duo's extra screen / touch area, and grade of screen?
You could get by perfectly fine with any laptop that has an Nvidia 1050, 1050 Ti, 1660 or 1660 Ti:
("Notebook" or "Max-Q" versions): https://benchmarks.ul.com/compare/best-gpus?search=1050%20
The 1660(Ti), which are well above that, can be found typically for around $1k (e.g. an ASUS):
https://www.amazon.com/Zephyrus-Gaming-GeForce-Windows-GA502GU-PB73/dp/B07QQ9LZZK
The performance of the 1660 Ti isn't that far away from the RTX 2060, either. That keeps you near that extreme of latest performance, and at half the cost, but without the extra screen and touch display features, but that should keep it thinner. But, again, if you don't need that performance, you could settle for a GTX 1050 (Ti) for a few hundred cheaper.

Slightly over budget.
I would look into the new ROG Zephyrus that got released, or the newly released Acer Nitro 7.
ROG Zephyrus G (2019) Ultra Slim Gaming Laptop, 15.6” IPS Type FHD, GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, AMD Ryzen 7 3750H, 8GB DDR4, 512GB PCIe Nvme SSD, Windows 10, GA502GU-PB73 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QQ9LZZK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_krJXCb7W8N0Z9
They actually have plenty good deals right now. If you can wait a week or two, the Asus Zephyrus g has an AMD Ryzen cpu and 1660ti and it’s just over your price range at $1099 and will be an excellent option. For things out right now at that budget I’d go dell g7 open box from Best Buy for about $800,

Or this Helios 300

Stretch it If you can though, as the zephyrus g is the best of the bunch by far.
I was looking at this one, too.
Btw, there is the same one on Amazon.com but with 1660ti(doesn't say max q) and it's $1,099.99 *edit: This one has 8GB ram, though.
Here: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07QQ9LZZK/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_-K6WDb3GQY6GS
That’s a hard sell at that price considering 1660ti laptops are out at $1100 and only 8% increase in performance for a 1070.
