/u/BASE1530 nailed it. If you're looking for a chrome finish from a plain steel tank you're going to have a bad time. If it were that easy everyone would be doing it and as you've found, they are not. If the question is just the gas resistant clear coat that one is easily solved with a can of this.

if you are going with rattle cans see if you can find rustolium automotive paint clear in a spray can.. and it should say for Engines .. its a higher quality paint than regular rattle can clear but its not $35 a can like 2k clear.
