I did a ton of reading up on this before making the purchase and I'm really happy with it. It's the Samson CO1U and I'd suggest getting a pop filter for it as well. I've never had any complaints about voice quality with it. You can get just the mic for a good bit cheaper, but I think the kit with the shockmount and stand is worth the extra money. Been considering a boom for it just to free up desk space since it has a pretty large footprint, but it's been more than fine without one.

All of these will work fine for what you need them for. The Rode one would probably sound the best for talking/VoiceOver but its slightly more expensive.

USB Mics:

AT2020
Blue Yeti
Rode Podcaster

Pop Filter:
Filter 1
Filter 2

Mic Stand:
Mic Stand 1
Mic Stand 2 more expensive but a good stand.

My partner and I are huge podcast listeners and are looking to start up one in the near future.

I've been doing a ton of research recently on the essentials needed to run a podcast with 2 hosts. Budget-wise, I'm looking for something that won't break the bank but delivers a great sound overall. Here's the list I've gathered so far.

  • Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface
  • ATR2100-USB Cardioid Dynamic USB/XLR Microphone x 2
  • Samson PS01 Pop Filter x 2
  • Microphone boom arm x 2 (optional)

Do you have any recommendations on the above setup? Is there anything here you would swap out?

I haven't done much audio post-production but I am familiar with the process from my video editing days. We don't have any desire to be mobile at the moment, so we're looking for a fixed setup.

    Thanks in advance!

I most certainly can I recommend this stand and this pop filter.

I did a lot of research into finding a stand that could support the blue yeti and this one is great for the price. A lot of ones around the price range are too flimsy in my opinion.

As I said previously, you should probably order the blue yeti from america. £80 vs £120 was a no brainer and if you contact amazon support via their chat like I did you can say "I'm having second thoughts and want to cancel it" but it was already on the way for me so instead they emailed me a free returns slip within a month of purchase to put on a parcel. They also said I could open it if I wanted. In the end I decided to keep the yeti anyway, but I had heard bad things about background noise and it had made my nervous. Anyway it was an awesome deal! Make sure you gift wrap to avoid VAT ;)

I use these in our studio. It holds its tension well. It will fix a lot of your wind problems. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/mho/Pop-SAMSON-PS01-Samson-Ps01-Filter/B0002ORPN4
