Succesful price match via Best Buy online chat. Feel absolutely sleazy but I'm sure Best Buy can take the hit. Here's the link for the chat. Here's what I did to receive the discount.

  • When prompted for a link to Amazon's listing, I used this link
  • When prompted for a SKU, I gave them 6324470
  • When prompted for the price, I said $109.98

They asked me to place the order and issued a credit back to my account following the order. Will update with successful screenshots as the emails come in. Gonna go pickup after confirming the refunded amount.

Edit: Received email saying credit has been applied to my order. Credited amount seems to be for the full cost of the drive (I used a BBY Gift Certificate for $15 off) so not sure what's going on there. I'll check my credit card statements in a few days.

Edit 2: Looks like reps have started catching on and denying the price match. Assuming the spike in price matches for the same item alerted their system / some of the reps. May be worth a shot in-store.

You can get a 970 evo 500gb for $120 on a sale. This is more than half the price, half the space, and twice as slow. granted thats the 500gb one. The 250gb one is only 30% faster.

$126 right now.

I just got the Dell 15 7590, Core i7, 8 Gb ram, and 225 ssd.

I upgraded to 32 Gbs of ram with: Crucial 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071H38422?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

and

my ssd's speed and storage to 500 Gbs with: Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 500GB -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M7Q21N7?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Note:
Before opening up your laptop to upgrade, you need to have Windows 10 on a flash drive with at least 8 Gbs of space.

Also have your wifi drivers downloaded before hand so that you don't have to go through the hassle afterwards: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29122/Windows-10-Wi-Fi-Drivers-for-Intel-Wireless-Adapters?v=t

After you have your laptop running back up, make sure to update everything including your drivers which you can find in the Dell's support page. (You might run into problems if you don't)

If you are technologically inclined, you should download throttlestop and do some undervolting to increase performance as well as save battery.
(if you have any questions, you can ask me bc I did my research and learned everything already)

Some links to help you with this:

^^^ this would be a good idea since XPS15's have a thermal issue and this could significantly reduce the heat

This motherboard can take a M.2 SSD. I would recommend looking at these SSDs if you want some better performance:

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-buying-guide,5602.html

The link below is the one I currently have:

Samsung 970 EVO Plus Series - 500GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V7S500B/AM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M7Q21N7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_QvD1Cb4YQFYYX

u/Chorono · 3 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

Man, my knowledge on SSDs is very limited. How good of a deal is this? General consensus of this SSD?

My friend recommends I get this one, but for a $100 difference and substantial difference in performance, I wouldn’t mind grabbing the WD

Awesome choice!

... but now you should resubmit your order. :) You mention that the cost was prohibitive, but you could save a lot of money by upgrading the RAM and SSD yourself.

When it comes to SSDs, you could get the (faster than whatever Lenovo's shipping) [Samsung 970 Pro] (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-PRO-512GB-MZ-V7P512BW/dp/B07C8Y31G2) for way less than the $200+ US price increase for the 512GB SSD option on Lenovo's site. Or you could get the [970 Evo Plus] (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-Plus-MZ-V7S1T0B/dp/B07M7Q21N7) for a lot less, the [WD Black SN750] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MH2P5ZD) for even less, etc.

You could also get more for your money. For instance, for less than the price of upgrading from 8GB to 16GB of RAM on the Lenovo site, you could buy an extra 16GB, install it yourself and wind up with 24GB.

(Prices checked are in USD, but the same generally holds on other global sites.)

I would like to get another stick of memory in there so I can dual boot Linux

Never upgraded a laptop before let alone build a computer so I am a complete noob as to how to go about this. Any guide would be appreciated. I am looking at this one from amazon currently

EDIT: This one seems to be a better deal

u/ego-sum-deus · 2 pointsr/ASUS

Yeah. I ended up getting this and just installing it as an additional drive:

Samsung 970 EVO Plus Series - 500GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M7Q21N7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_hjOnDbRGDAVJG

the speeds are out of this world. Both read and write speeds of 3200 mb/s.

With how much faster this is than the factory 1TB SSD, I'm actually considering using this as the main OS drive.

Hey OP! I've just ordered this Mobo in the mail and am confused on the M.2 options of this model.

Are both drives NVME, that would fit something like this one here or are either of them this style of M.2?

Sorry if dumb question, I'm not sure how to distinguish the two M.2 slots. I know the first link is NVME and second is not, but I don't know if there are different names for the two M.2 slots.

Blargh. I got the 2950X back in Feb cuz Amazon allowed me to do installment payments on it. I got 4 sticks at 8gb each in it. So the quad channel doesn't rly do anything for Premiere, gaming, or live streaming?

I currently have the 970 EVO with my OS on it and the 850 Pro for all my storage, will a raid setup improve my performance? I've never done raid before, but I remember back when SCSI drives were hot ppl talked about raiding them up.

EDIT: It's also crazy that I bought that 2TB 850 Pro back in 2016 for 880 bux and now the better version, the 860 Pro, is only 500 bux!

u/FackinJerq · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Considering you have an M.2 slot, I would recommend getting an Samsung 970 EVO 500gb from Amazon since it's on sale rather than getting the Samsung 860 Evo. Don't sell yourself short :D

u/nickyboombox · 1 pointr/buildapc

the 970 evo plus is a bit cheaper/faster. Though with that build pricetag i don't think you'll be too excited saving 30bucks or so

u/71aaf6bfe05f94b6c449 · 1 pointr/buildapc

go with 2700x instead of the 1900x. if you have a use case for high core count then i recommend the 2950x. but you probably don't need it because the 2700x is awesome. 2700x also has 8 cores like the 1900x but you can go am4 rather than tr4 and save money on your motherboard. you'll also have a lesser power draw and a more compact case. 850W seems more than enough i think you can downsize to 650W. i like to spend a little more on the power supply. by going 2700x i would spend some of the money saved on a higher rated power supply. also if you switch to 2700x the stock cooler is pretty based so you can save money by using it. for memory i suggest using samsung b-die it had better success with 1st gen ryzen.

here's a parts list for a decent 2700x build:

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Crossfire-Motherboard-B450-Tomahawk/dp/B07F7W5KJS

https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-Processor-Wraith-Cooler/dp/B07B428M7F

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16817151172

https://www.amazon.com/Innovation-Cooling-Graphite-Thermal-Pad/dp/B07CK9SHZG

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820236027

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-Plus-MZ-V7S250B/dp/B07M7Q21N7

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V7V28503

that prices out around $1050. it does not price in a graphics card, for which the Sapphire Vega 56 card you listed is already a great pick. i think those go for around $300 today. if you can re-use your current case and already have thermal paste you can decrease the price by about $150. assuming you can get a Sapphire Vega 56 for around $300 this build prices out $1200 total.

u/ryanthesoup · 1 pointr/Dell

I'd double check and make sure that you don't have an m.2 slot on your mainboard before ordering a 2.5" replacement drive. The performance gains are literally insane and the prices are right. This is the exact drive I put in my G5. It screams.

When BobofAllTrades repasted his G3, he did so with liquid metal. I'm not personally interested in doing that because I travel with my devices frequently and I don't personally trust it to withstand getting tossed around in a backpack frequently without leaking. But with that said, I saw good results from Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.

u/HelloThereamcat · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

It really depends on your use case, but yes it would, still not on par with the MSI's 1.5tb worth of ssd storage. Also good to note: The Ram Kit, was 160 usd new (on sale right now), The 860 Evo is 200 new, and the 970 Evo Plus is 130 new. The used computer had nearly 500 dollars in upgrades in it

u/Ricky_Rollz · 1 pointr/buildapc

Interesting, thanks for the heads up, this is the one part of the build I haven't gone too deep into yet. I saw this stick on several build review sites as a great performance/price deal and just went with it.

Coming from a computer on an HDD, I am sure everything will seem pretty fast, but good to know there are performance degradation issues to be concerned with. Do you have any recommended better storage makes/models?I was also considering the samsung 970 evo plus, but had gone for space over speed originally: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-Plus-MZ-V7S500B/dp/B07M7Q21N7/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

I plan to drop a 1TB 7200 HDD for archive files and maybe another 500gb sata ssd I have for 'warm' storage when photo editing, but want a solid 500gb - 1TB main drive.

u/PsycheRevived · 1 pointr/NewMaxx

I lied -- another question.

HP EX950 for $78 Amazon

Samsung 970 EVO for $90 Amazon

Samsung 970 EVO Plus for $110 Amazon

Which would you choose for the boot drive?

u/panzerkiller13 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'd definitely recommend a Samsung 970 Evo PLUS instead of a 970 Evo. It is faster and has a higher TBW (Total bites written, aka the estimated life of the drive) rating than the non-plus. 970 Evo Plus 500GB. You could also consider an Adata XPG SX8200 Pro for about the same price as the drive you have selected. The TBW for the 500gb Adata is actually rated a little higher than Samsung, but they should be neck and neck in speed and reliability, if its not edging the 970 Evo Plus out by a hair in some scenarios.

I would also suggest at least a 24" monitor (just my personal recommendation on size) if you can find one in the same price range, 120Hz+ with a lower response time (2ms or lower for gaming, it can actually make a difference on some games and specific monitors) would also behoove you, but as I'm a little rusty on monitors and haven't looked at them in a good while I'm not sure how much more you'd be looking at spending to get these specs.

Remove the windows 10 stick buy a key for $10, instead get a M.2 SSD, at least 512gb
