One option to reduce the number of bites is to burn several punk sticks in the hopes that the smoke will drive away most insects. Some outdoorspeople wear permethrin-impregnated clothing, but then they are killing insects just by virtue of arriving in their area, maybe not the best thing for a caring meditator.
