I bought a used Schecter Hellraiser with active EMGs 85/89 for $290 on Ebay. I've put substantial hours on SG, Les Paul, Stratocaster and Ibanez and it's hands down the best guitar I've ever owned or played.
If you plan on changing tuning often then go with the fixed bridge rather than the Floyd Rose.
Ok, here is the review of this.
2012 Schecter C-1 FR in black cherry
I purchased it from Amazon.com. I could have gotten it for $50 cheaper, but with the fact that I got free shipping that sealed the deal.
Here is the link to the actual page I bought it from. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0019ICXIE/ref=oh_o03_s01_i00_details
As for the construction of the axe:
Mahagony neck through body
Rosewood fretboard with a 25.5" scale. So jumbo frets on it. The frets are inlaid with gothic crosses which are a really nice touch IMO.
Pearl inlaid around the entire exterior. I believe it was abalone when I read about it, but I could be wrong. I'll look it up again and edit this as needed.
grover hardware in a beautiful smoked chrome finish.
emg 81 for the bridge and emg 89 for the neck. Both double humbuckers with the ability to go into single coil mode. Amazingly enough it sounds ALOT like a strat like that. Blew my damn mind. The pick ups are also active and require a C battery that is super easy to access. You can play it in passive move, but it picks up alot of noise and the soundquality becomes subpar.
Floyd Rose 1000 series tremelo set up.
I picked up a SGR-1C case for it as well. Link is here. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001U5NYD4/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details
The case has a TON of storage in it. I've never had such a badass case on any of my guitars. I can fit all my hardware for the guitar, wires, a cry baby wah and a effects pedal in it, and the kicker is I STILL have room. The handle is amazingly well placed and balanced.
As for what I love about it... It is the fastest guitar I've played to date in that price range. Super fast, doesn't pick up every little mistake you make, and this guitar can hold a note FOREVER. Not to mention I tested it by doing 10 full out whammy dives in a row and hooked it up to a tuner afterwards to find out EVERY string was still in perfect tune. Very well balanced floyd rose on this. The fact that I can get a guitar that can sound like a strat or a jackson all in one package is amazing. For a intermediate or begginer this is the guitar to get if you play metal/rock/classical/blues.
As for what I would upgrade on it? Nothing man. It's a very well balanced and thought out guitar. If anything I'd buy another guitar, but that is way down the line and only to get a really nice soloist (american). Honestly though, I'll enjoy this for years before I even think about it which will let me save up alot for a nice tube for now.
Versatility is superb on this one gentleman and gals. Like I said, you can switch from humbucker to single coil mode. Admittedly you don't have 3 humbuckers so you can't get a "true" strat sound, but if you want one guitar that can do it all then this is the one.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to let me know and I'll answer as I can. Also, I apologize for not putting this as a [NGD] post, but it was my first post in here.
