If you're already a level 9 you're in a great place. :)
I don't know much about amonia-free stuff. But, to limit the damage you could use a much lower % developer and, in turn, increase the development time. I would try this one or this one. I have about 10-11 level hair (naturally 8.5-9) and I use the one that's 7% from this brand and I tone for a bit longer than 30 minutes. I even use the lower % when bleaching and extend the development time.
Also, you could use a protein treatment afterward to bulk your hair up. :)
