I have a hero 5 and a session, I use [this cover](Screen Protector for GoPro Hero 5 Black Sport Camera (Screen and Lens), AFUNTA 2 Pack (4 Pcs) Anti-scratch Hero5 Tempered Glass Film Accessory https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M3V7K7I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_sucyyb59CFX9Y) and it's worked great on both. I'm pretty sure my 5 has taken hits with this on and it's held up fine. GoPro also makes a super-case for the 5 but it's pretty expensive.
