Personally I'd go for the Kinetic; no battery changes and the accuracy of quartz.
In general, I think it's hard to go wrong with a Seiko, Timex, Casio or Citizen.
The Seiko Kinetic watches are kind of neat. This particular one also comes with a white dial.
If he's into tech, he might appreciate the coolness of a watch that charges itself with your body's motion. Quartz accuracy too.
