I think that might be the problem then!
There are "Sharpies" (or "Sharpie Permanent Markers") and "Sharpie Pens" (which are more like a sharpie branded writing/drawing pen). I don't think the Sharpie Pen's are permanent on all surfaces while Sharpie markers (the traditional sharpies) are.
