Thanks so much for the detailed advice!! I should clarify, I meant early fall as a marker of time of year, not weather (late September) - I have family in the South and I know all about the 80-something degree Thanksgivings :P

The things I had in mind were: floral, black, jewel-toned (would get the red or blue). I already own the floral and black items. I don't know if the black dress would be too stuffy?? Re: shoulders - a blazer would probably be too much, right? D:

I doubt very much that it will be a super formal sort of affair, and I don't know whether it will be a church sort of thing or not - for context, invitations have not yet been sent, only save the dates, but I know I'm going - the groom to be is one of my best friends from high school. The bride to be & groom to be are not the same sort of Christian, and also they are bootstrapping this wedding/paying for it all themselves. Obviously, I could be totally wrong, so it's always good to keep the options open as much as possible (thanks for the advice on dressing up/down - that's super helpful! I am usually much better at dressing up than down and I think it's because my skin is sensitive enough that I cannot wear costume jewelry).

For makeup I was definitely thinking red lip (because that's my usual preference anyway haha) and something fairly simple in the eye department - I'll probably be busy sweating it all off anyway :P
