Hey dude, if you want to PM after this - please do. Aside from touring, teaching people how to DJ IS what I do - it is literally my other job. The other thing is there is no way that this thread alone, no matter how detailed, will answer all your questions effectively.

First things first, do not buy some shitty controller - you want to learn if DJing is something you actually want to do first and make a decent investment.

The first investment you CAN make is in a solid 32-64gb USB stick.

After that download Rekordbox - the universal dj cue point software for all things Pioneer. This software analyzes your music for things like BPM and Key. It will also allow you to place cue points on your songs to mark things like "where the song should start" and "when i should start to mix out" or "other mix point to play the second drop instead". Rekorbox offers a paid version you can use with their controllers but don’t make that investment until you have decided and are ready. The absolute MOST important thing about DJing is knowing your music, knowing it back and front, knowing every beat, bar, and phrase - this program helps you fast track that knowledge.

I’m starting with these two things because, in theory, it is all you need to do exactly what we are doing on stage right now. Pioneer is the club standard when it comes to DJ hardware, every club we've ever played at uses Pioneers and literally nothing else. This is also the cheapest investment you can make to see if DJing is something you want to do.

Use Rekordbox to add all the music you want do DJ into a playlist and see what the BPMs are, use RB’s GRID system to lay down perfect BPM grids on the songs and count out the number of bars from the beginning to the drop, know how long every section of your favorite songs are, see if all their BPMs are even in the same range. YES the song has to be the same speed as the other song to mix it. In general choose songs that are no more than +/- 4bpm away from the other track.

I could literally go on for hours there is so much to learn, just message me and we’ll get into it.

just piggybacking for those similarly dissuaded, i also found on amazon a silicon power 64gb usb 3.0 flash drive with good reviews, is amazon prime eligible, and is $23.98. i'll be picking one up.
