That was my thought. Someone might try to add something like this. Then you can connect up a keylogger or whatever other nefarious USB powered device you might want.

Do you have any spare internal USB headers on your motherboard? I usually connect usb boot drives internally so they don’t stick out for me to bump into.

I’m using the same usb sticks for several years now. They are not huge but I didn’t want to bother swapping to new tiny ones.

>I've looked for a SATA to Female USB port but haven't found one.

That's because the SATA bus isn't the USB bus.

However, you probably have a few USB headers unused. This will do what you're looking for. Or if you want a pair of them.

For those that don't have a USB port INSIDE the computer

Here's an adapter

Or if you don't mind waiting for shipping from china...

There is more info in the forum thread now. One of my posts lists my specs with links to motherboard and usb hub.

>Asus M5A97 LE R2.0

>AMD FX8350

>16GB ECC RAM

>2x8GB SanDisk Cruzer Fit (I have been using one successfully on FreeNAS 9.2, ordered a second one for mirroring in 9.3)

>StarTech 2 port USB adapter (has worked fine in 9.2 with the one drive attached, inserted the second drive in it as well)

>IBM megaraid controller flashed with LSI IT firmware for direct pass through
and of course several hard drives.

You're supposed to get an LED strip specifically for use inside the case. You could get one of these though: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002GNU2V6?pc_redir=T1

How about this: USB $10 Link then get one of these or something similar: link then run the adapter to the top of the case. Possibly might work. Another solution is to hard wire your desktop ;)

I agree with you that would be pretty sweet. But you can achieve something pretty similar with a USB header to USB female adapter and putting the unifying receiver inside your case.

I have one of these, one port has my unifying receiver, the other has an Xbox controller dongle. Works great.

Those exist, too. You’re probably searching with the wrong words. Type in USB header adapter on Newegg or Amazon, not hub. Hub has a different meaning.

If you've got USB headers open, I recommend one of these so that you don't have to run a usb cable outside the case.

Of course, they come in various sizes, numbers of ports, cable lengths, and USB versions. And they're pretty cheap!
