May SADness - Day 4

  • One soap per day through the entire month of May.

    Dapper Dragon - Passion Fruit

    My mother is Portuguese, and passion fruit, or maracujá, is a popular flavor in drinks and desserts in her culture. As a kid, I drank WAAAAAY too much of this stuff. It's a scent that reminds me of my mom's side of the family, particularly of my late grandparents. I reached out to /u/songwind a few months ago about having a custom soap made and this was the result.

     

    Presentation - It's the standard Dapper Dragon plastic container. He did customize the label to reflect the scent, though which is a nice touch. :)

     

    Scent It's a sticky, sweet, syrupy, fruit scent. Passion fruit has its own unique scent, so it's hard to pick out individual notes. It's definitely tropical, sort of like a mango or pineapple I guess, but absolutely its own scent. Assuming you know what passion fruit smells like, this soap comes pretty close. I was actually worried that the scent would be TOO sweet. I love Dapper Dragon, but his watermelon and pomegranate soaps smell like jolly ranchers. I am glad that this scent is more muted and not overly sweet!

     

    Performance - It's hard for me to rank or quantify the soaps that I like, but Dapper Dragon can go toe to toe with any brand out there. It's slick, cushiony, creamy, and it leaves my face feeling great. I do prefer the tallow formula (which this soap is) to the vegan version, but both are excellent. There are some soaps in my den that slightly outperform DD, but the difference between them is negligible.

     

    TL;DR - /u/songwind is amazing and if you're ever looking for a custom soap, he's your man. I love the scent of this one and the performance is right in line with the rest of his offerings. Feel free to ask him for a batch of passion fruit soap, but you'll have to kill me before I give mine up.

Portugal has passionfruit Sumol which is pretty top notch delicious, and you could probably find it if you've got a Portuguese market near you, which basically no one does.
