A picture of the front of your house would help.
I'm a mail carrier. So I'm the guy leaving your packages. Some of us are nicer than others. Some of us are, much, more time pressed than others. But if you make things easy for us, and leave a sign telling us what you want us to do, most of the time we'll try to accommodate you.
Where I'll leave things depends on the house. In areas where I think things are more likely to be stolen I'll try to leave it less visible. But that's not always an option. I also try not to leave things where they'll get rained on. Also not always an option. Small packages will go in the mailbox, next smaller between the doors. Also not always an option. If you have an enclosed porch, and the door's not locked, I'll put them inside. I'll use the side door in some cases. If you want them out of sight and don't have an enclosed porch, do you have a place to put something like this? Leave a note on the door to please place packages in the bench.
