Just a different thought, but why not a small, lightweight, portable tv? This ONE weighs the same or less than most laptops.

There are at least three types of things you can watch on a TV:

  • Broadcast TV: your TV is picking up that signal using a big antenna. You can get a portable TV if you really want, but your phone doesn't have a long enough antenna or the right circuitry to pick up a broadcast TV signal. In theory it could, especially if you had an antenna - but nobody wants that so it's not part of a phone.
  • Cable: your TV is using data, it's using it from your cable. You're paying your cable company a lot of money for that data.
  • Streaming: your TV is using data.

Sending data over a wire is cheaper than sending it wirelessly. So your cable TV and cable Internet give you lots of data per month, while your cell phone carrier gives you less.

Normal has changed. You still can get a small TV for around $70 (maybe cheaper, didn't look around too much). If there was more demand they would probably be a lot cheaper, but the market for these is very limited now.

$70 was worth more in 1997 also, I'm sure the chart factors that in.

I have an old tube TV in my van that doesn't work. Was looking for something to replace it in the cubbie holder, and found options like this. It seems like it could work, and can be plugged into DC power, or just charged on DC.
