This might be excessive, but I wanted to be thorough so you can see what all is out there. I am having trouble thinking of anything that the following tools can't do, in terms of AR building and maintenance. This is basically my setup at home, though some.of the brands and whatnot are different.

I am operating under the assumption that you already have some basic hand tools in addition to the torque wrench.

The only things you absolutely need are roll pin punches and an armorer's wrench and some basic hand tools like Allen wrenches, screwdrivers, needlenose pliers and so on. The rest just expedite the process and help solve weird issues that may come up.

Yep, super cheap and worth it.

These work great. Yeah, they cost more than a clevis pin, but you don't need anything else with these.

Pretty much all ARs will work the same when it comes to assembly. Some things will be negligibly more difficult with certain parts than with others (installing a standard style trigger vs. installing a one-piece trigger housing) but for the most part just build what you want.

If you’re dead-set on using the Anderson lower as “practice,” you can finish it with something cheap like PSA’s freedom rifle kits.

Personally, though, I’d say build the exact rifle you want. Dont half-ass it: individually source every single part if you have to to have exactly what you want. I didn’t get this right until my very recent AR build based on a PWS Mk1 Mod2 lower. I picked out each and every part from the stock to the barrel to the freakin’ takedown pins to get exactly the rifle I wanted. You have two lowers. I’d say build one braced pistol for close range and one 16” recce rifle.

Whatever you do: don’t neglect the trigger. I used to be one of the types who thought triggers only mattered in extreme precision rifles or handguns. Then I tried an AR with a decent trigger and now I am a card-carrying member of the Church of Geissele.

Also, watch through a YouTube build video like this one and make sure you have all or most of these tools before building. these are also lifesavers.
