When I was a teenager, I read two compilations that I think really helped me define myself:

Am I Blue?: Coming Out Of The Silence, which was a compilation of LGBT stories specifically geared towards a younger audience. I identified myself as 100% straight (and still do) but the book still impacted me profoundly, largely contributing to my understanding of sexuality when I was still at a young(er) age and therefore just sort of naturally open-minded. I imagine the book would be that much more relevant to a teenager who was struggling with their sexuality. It was also how I discovered Francesca Lia Block who would become one of my favorite authors as a teenager.

Also, the Bust Guide to the New Girl Order a compilation by women about all things womanhood: love and sex and health and motherhood and beauty and body image, etc.. I happily stumbled upon it in a used book store and to this day I'm so glad I did, because this was pre-internet and my access to discourse about what it meant to be "woman" was limited to my family and TV and movies and Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill," which wasn't bad but there was room for so much more.

Also, I think reading Jon Irving's Cider House Rules at a young ag helped me to understand why I was pro-choice in a way that I am still not able to neatly summarize myself.
