It's worth bearing in mind that Lovecraft never really envisioned a "Cthulhu Mythos", that was a term coined by later champions of his work (ie August Derleth). E'ch-Pi-El referred to his semi-connected stories as "Yog-Sothothery" and wrote a history of the Necronomicon for continuity but was happy to provide differing and sometimes conflicting accounts and information across various works. What this means is that there are a wide variety of stories, books, films etc that technically are "Cthulhu Mythos" works but have little to none of the spirit of the originals.

I would recommend anything by the writers in HPL's 'circle' - Clark Ashton Smith, Frank Belknapp Long, Robert E. Howard; anything edited/curated by S.T. Joshi (eg Black Wings); anything by Ramsey Campbell (eg Cold Print); there are more but I'd start with the Mythos Megapack - it has a selection of several of the authors I've mentioned and is a good jumping-off point for wider reading.

I'm a big fan of Klein. Just wish he was more prolific and that it was available on Kindle.

If you don't want to invest in a book you're not sure you'll like, you might try "The Events at Poroth Farm". If you like that, you'll probably enjoy the ceremonies. It's available in this collection, which is a pretty good buy at 55¢!

This ebook, The Cthulu Mythos Megapack has a bunch of short stories in the same style, some by his contemporaries and some by more modern authors. There are a few of Lovecraft's actual stories mixed in, but lots of new stuff too. It's only 99¢.

You might also like The House on the Borderland by William Hope Hodgson.

I would most heartily recommend the founder of cosmic horror; the mind that spawned such evil beings such as the great Old Ones. I am, of course, dancing around the name of Howard Phillips Lovecraft.

The expansive universe initiated by Lovecraft has evolved further from it's (humble?) roots to the brobdingnagian universe populated by works by many authors. A good introduction (though pale in comparison to pure Lovecraft) is this electronic book. I have heartily enjoyed it and from there I was enticed to further my Lovecraftian library. I sought out his full works and am very much glad I did so!

In short, if the above was perhaps too long winded, H. P. Lovecraft is a great, well established author and my above selection, I feel, is a good jump off point.

Drummies.

Lovecraft.

Coincidentally enough, in my image I look like I am controlled by a creature from a Lovecraftian story.
