Hi! Welcome to the wonderful world of Reiki! This subject is actually quite controversial and often debated here, so you should view all opinions with that in mind.

My opinion is that online Reiki training can be incredibly beneficial for teaching certain parts of Reiki, but can not be a substitute for in-person teachings, and atunements are absolutely required to be in-person.
It's essentially like learning from a book (I'd recommend The Original Reiki Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui which is amazingly informative and a wonderful resource); you can get the theory, the hand positions, even the supposedly restricted symbols are prevalent online, but there can be no atunement without direct learning from a Reiki Master Teacher.
