Thanks for this post. The stock image on Amazon makes the hour indices and hands look like they blend in with the face, but your real-life picture proves that there is actually quite a bit of contrast.

I think it would look good on a brown band like this. You should do that and then take a picture to follow up for me.

With that budget, you can't go wrong with a Tissot automatic. Great Swiss brand.

Also the watch itself has a brown band, looks clean and minimalistic and needs no battery as it's automatic (self winding). - Tissot Men's T0654301603100 Automatic III Swiss Automatic Watch with Brown Band https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007IY4OKS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_wcgiybJDHK86V

Another cheaper battery alternative - Tissot Men's T063.610.16.037.00 Tradition Silver-Tone Stainless Steel Watch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005AI6E4S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_bfgiybM2S0CZW

Is this for you, or a gift? Tissot makes a few different watches in your range, I would suggest looking for an automatic or manual wind watch instead of a battery powered quartz watch. There are a few jewelry stores in Columbus that sell Tissot, google can help there. Something like this:

If this is your first mechanical watch, know that ETA 2824-2 movement is quite decent. It checks off all the boxes of things you can expect from a quality watch. It's relatively high beat (28,800 VPH), hacks, manual winds, and performs like a champ. Tissot has a good brand heritage too, if you care about that stuff, so I'm not saying it's a bad watch. But, at $650, you overpaid for it.

Apologies if I'm about to come off as sticking my nose in something that's none of my business, but I'm pretty passionate (yep) about making the best use of money.

Amazon has it for $425-$460, and warranty isn't something you need to worry about with watch movements. You save $200 here, and that will likely more than cover any potential repair. You also could've gotten this for cheaper as well.

For your first mechanical watch, you ideally don't want to overspend because chances are you will make mistakes. For example, you might forget to take off your watch when you go golfing and wear out the watch movement. You might want to change the leather strap yourself, and scratch the case while you're at it, or similarly scratch the crystal.

So all in all, if I could go back in time, I would get a Chinese watch with good styling and good movement as my first watch. Something like this in Roman numeral looks sexy, and would only run you $112 while having all you could hope for and more in a watch of that price (hacking, 21,800 VPH, hand winding automatic, date function). You can damage this watch all you want and there will be no heartache. Besides, you will likely be the only guy in a 50 mile radius with a Seagull watch, which is in its own right a very legit watchmaker.

That's what I would do if I was faced with the same decision.

That Tissot reminds me of the Mido All Dial and this version of the Commander. Sorry if they donot fit your budget, I recently saw in person some Midos and really liked them.

If you like the Bambino check the Mido Baroncelli or the Automatic III BTW I have no idea what's going on with that red number three on the dial, other versions do not have it. The Visodate and PRC 200, also from Tissot, are other options but I am fond of the complete day and symmetric dial of the Couturier. There are versions without the orange details, but I think orange looks fresh and modern.
