Description: Really nice looking dress watch. Domed crystal makes it look extremely good in person. Clean look. Day/date. Looks well as both a dress watch and a casual watch to wear every day.
For <$500 I'd say go with an Orient Bambino or something from Seiko's SARB line. Both really punch above their weight if you aren't too hung up on brands. Tissot Visodates are nice too if you want something swiss. Don't forget swapping bands is super easy and an awesome way to change up your look without buying another watch
You can go beyond your budget for a little bit and check out the Tissot Visodate. It's the first thing that came to mind when I read your post. Available both in Black and White, double sapphire crystal, automatic Swiss movement, can't be wrong!
The Orient Bambino might also fit your description, and it seems to be gaining lots popularity lately. It also comes in a very comfortable price. It's Automatic and available both in black and white, though it does not have Sapphire. Personally I'm in love with the black, also looks terrific with a Honey Calf strap. It's in the style of mid 20th century dress watches though said to be larger than the average size of these, so take a good look at the sizes.
Also, congrats on your graduation and good luck!
Tissot Visodate or bust. It matches your title perfectly.

For those interested
My go-to suggestion for this price range is the Tissot Visodate. Tissot uses Swiss ETA movements in their watches which are well worth their money in quality and longevity, so you can't really go wrong. It's a dressy piece but can be dressed down in a pair of shorts or jeans, while still pulling off a classy look in a pair of khakis and a blazer.
On top of it all, it's somewhat comfortably within your price range. Check it out: White and Black
Congrats! White dial is good, classy, timeless, and versatile for sure. The SARB035 was discontinued not long ago, but there are still some out there. It's definitely a solid choice and a good pick. If you want some other options:
-One of the Seiko "Cocktail Time" Presages
-Tissot Visodate
-Hamilton Jazz Master
-Any of the Orient Baminos
-Orient Polaris GMT
-One of the Zeppelin watches.
-Junkers Bauhaus
-A Tisell watch (the dressier ones are towards the bottom of the page)
EDIT Added to the list
Here are two watches I would personally consider in the sub $500 range. I think they are both a little dressier than the chronograph style you posted though.
http://www.seiyajapan.com/collections/seiko/products/seiko-automatic-presage-sarx017
http://www.seiyajapan.com/collections/seiko/products/s-sarb065
Both are popular models on this forum and recommended quite frequently. The second being even a bit dressier than the first but both really are fantastic models.
You could also look at something like the Tissot Visodate or Hamilton Jazzmaster.

Tissot Dress Watch or Visodate would be good. The first one is 38mm (not cm like the description says) and the second one's 40mm - both decent sizes for dress watches.

Hey man, Hamilton is a pretty well respected brand around here, and their Jazzmaster series are all very decent watches with good movements. In fact, they may be a bit more expensive due to the value of their brand!
Have you also considered a Tissot Visodate? They seem to be very popular with the r/watches crowd as of late. Very similar style and similar size as well.
For a smaller wrist, have you considered something slightly smaller at 38mm? The Tissot PR100 automatic might be a good place to start. Food for thought.
Tissot and Hamilton are both owned by the Swatch group, which also owns higher end brands such as Omega.
Good luck on your hunt - remember at the end of the day it's really your decision, and as long as you find something that you are comfortable with, you're golden.
In that price range my first choice would be the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic. The Tissot Visodate is a close second.
It depends on the brand when it comes to AD pricing. For instance, I genuinely don't know how one would stumble upon an Invicta at MRSP. However, I do think with the rise of the internet gray market, it would be difficult for certain ADs to do good business.
The biggest losers IMO is the local department store jewelry counter. Consider the classic Tissot Visodate.
At MRSP, the Visodate is $650: https://us.tissotshop.com/tissot-visodate-men-s-silver-automatic-brown-leather-strap-watch.html
Your local department store sells it for MRSP: https://www.macys.com/shop/product/tissot-mens-swiss-automatic-heritage-visodate-brown-leather-strap-watch-39mm-t0194301603101?ID=2521838&CategoryID=57452&RVI=Browse_2&tdp=cm_choiceId~z2521838~xcm_pos~zPos2
You can get the watch on Amazon (prime enabled) for $450: https://www.amazon.com/Tissot-TIST0194301603101-Heritage-Stainless-Automatic/dp/B0041Q44T2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1524028129&sr=8-2&keywords=tissot+visodate
Or you can get it on Jomashop for $379: https://www.jomashop.com/tissot-visodate-men-watch-t0194301603101.html
Unless you as a retailer routinely sells very high margin very high end stuff (which your local department store jewellery counter doesn't usually), I just don't see how these authorized dealers can make much money, not when they are being undercut by 30-40% by the gray market easily.
Congrats, I really enjoy the look of this watch!
I myself have been considering a Visodate for awhile, are you not in the states? Amazon has had it for less for quite some time
Top of the list is the Orient Explorer, I've always wanted a slide rule watch and I think this one is a real beaut for the price.
Next up is a Seiko 5 beige I want a nice watch that can go with any casual outfit, I plan to put a bond nato on it
Last but not least another Orient, I've agonized over which watch to get that has that retro 50's flair that i love but it came down to the tissot visodate and the Orient bambino in the end I went with Orient because when I saw the tissot in person at a watch shop it just didnt look like a 500 dollar watch to me the band especially looked cheap and plasticky :(, I've seen the bambino in person too and i was honostly floored by the quality of it. I dont think the Orient logo goes well with the 50's style but I'm willing to overlook it. I think eventually I'll get a Hamilton Jazzmaster of some kind but for now I'll settle for the Orient.
Have you seen the Visodate in person? The way the case tapers it has a small appearance despite being a 40mm case. Here's a few I suggested looking into in another similar thread:
Aw, shucks...I just try to be the person I wish had been there when I got started with my various hobbies and whatnot.
Regarding Tissot, that's a great reason to look into their stuff! There are a ton of people in /r/watches who have them. Here's one of our brand discussion guides from a while back, and here are some of the Tissot watches that have been posted here in the past. There are a lot of great-looking vintage ones in there. I remember when this one was submitted and I started to salivate.
And while I don't personally own a Tissot, I do have a lack of dressy watches in my collection and I personally love this one. It's a timeless style, with a bit of retro goodness. I'm adding it to my Amazon wish list to taunt myself.
Good luck with your search, and feel free to message one of us if you have any questions going forward!
With your budget, the three best options (in my opinion) would be a [Tissot Visodate,] (http://www.amazon.com/Tissot-TIST0194301603101-Heritage-Stainless-Automatic/dp/B0041Q44T2) a Seiko Cocktail Time, or an Orient Bambino. These are the best sub $500 dress watches you can get. Check out /r/watches simple questions thread if you have any more questions
That Tissot would be my choice. Always a sucker for Tissot.
I love that Longines, but I don't know anything about the new ones, other than it's a Swatch company like Tissot.
For a little bit more, you can get one of the Heritage series Visodates with automaic movement and the very elegant old-school Tissot script logo:
http://www.amazon.com/Tissot-Heritage-Visodate-Automatic-T019-430-16-031-01/dp/B0041Q44T2/
Or a PR100 automatic for a bit less:
http://www.amazon.com/Tissot-T0494071603100-Silver-Automatic-Watch/dp/B005C8FISY/ref=sr_1_2
That's a purdy watch.
With that kind of budget you've got a lot of options!
Some qualifying questions, though for more specific recommendations: Automatic, Mechanical, or Quartz (or do you care)? General dress (suit, business casual, etc..)? Wrist size?
Some off the cuff ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) suggestions:
Tissot Visodate
Orient Bambino
Junkers Bauhaus
Seiko Cocktail Time This one is flashier than it sounds like you want but Jesus Christ is it beautiful..
SARB035
Just to name a few!
Welcome aboard and excellent choice of watch! 11.6 is going to be the case thickness. Their website doesn't list it directly, but Amazon and Jomashop both have the band width listed as 20mm. This is one of the most common widths thankfully so you'll have plenty of options for straps. Hope this helps!

not an AD, but for a watch this price you don't need to go to an AD
Hamilton Jazzmaster
Tissot Visodate
its not sapphire, but Orient bambino V1 for cheap
there are TONS that fit that description though. Seiko has a bunch of models if you are willing to spend the cash

Vintage Seiko Blue Bell-Matic - $150?
I bought this model from this seller about a year ago. I wear it a lot, but I need a better band for it.
Seiko Rose Gold Kinetic Chronograph - $558
I saw this watch in San Juan on my honeymoon. My wedding band is titanium with a stripe of rose gold, and the watch matched perfectly. I should have bought it.
Graf Zeppelin Hand Wind Chronograph - $800
Or the Junkers with the power reserve indicator for $550. Decisions, decisions.
Tissot Retro Visodate Automatic - $488
Or the rose gold Le Locle for $400.
Grand total = $1996
Update: I just read the rules again and realized that my Bell-Matic is in violation. However, I'm attached to it and cannot manage for the next ten years without it. So screw you all. :-D
My current favorite watch at this price point is the Tissot Visodate Automatic. You can also find it in a gold-tone stainless steel if you'd prefer that color profile.
What I like about this watch is that it has very timeless, versatile styling that you can dress up or dress down, and it has an ETA movement, which is solid for the price you're paying.
May I also submit for your consideration the Tissot Visodate
http://www.amazon.com/Tissot-Heritage-Visodate-Automatic-T019-430-16-031-01/dp/B0041Q44T2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382470929&sr=8-1&keywords=tissot+visodate
Tissot Visodate.
If you're looking at sub-$200 dress mechanicals, you're pretty much looking at Orient. No shame though, as they're generally very good for the $$$.
If you're up to stretch your budget a little, however, the Tissot Swissmatic and Visodate are excellent as well.
On the very inexpensive end, the Orient Bambino: http://www.amazon.com/Orient-ER24004B-Bambino-Automatic-Mechanical/dp/B008VBUZDW It comes in multiple dial/case color configurations. Doesn't come on a bracelet, although there are similar Orient models that do.
Moving into the affordable range, the Tissot Visodate: http://www.amazon.com/Tissot-TIST0194301603101-Heritage-Visodate-Automatic/dp/B0041Q44T2
Again, multiple dial/case colors, but no bracelet option (I don't think).
Still affordable, Seiko Cocktail Time: http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-MECHANICAL-Shinobu-Ishigaki-SARB065/dp/B0038OLUMM
This model comes in the one style, but does come on either a bracelet or strap. There are other SARBxx models with different dial colors.
Moving into luxury watches, Grand Seiko Snowflake: http://www.seiyajapan.com/collections/grand-seiko/products/s-sbga011
Premium Luxury, Patek Philippe Calatrava: http://m.jomashop.com/patek-5127-1g.html#0
i think either are fine watches, and perfectly worthy gifts, but in my honest opinion neither strike me as "last forever family heirloom" material. The Citizen is not what I would call a timeless design and is likely to look dated at some point. The Shinola is a little more classic but... it's a cheap quartz movement in a well-designed but somewhat cheaply made case. And while there's absolutely no shame in wearing or enjoying either of these watches, neither seems like the kind of thing that will be treasured for generations either.
In the end, though, the best gifts are the ones given with thought and consideration for what the recipient might like. You love your husband, and I bet you know what he'd like. Follow your heart, engrave something thoughtful on it, and I'm sure he'll love it.
For my tastes, in this price range, if you want something stylish I'd look at a visodate, or if you want something a little plainer, try something military-inspired like this junkers or Hamilton field watch. For something a little dressier, also consider a SARB033. Also, I believe all of those watches are available in either black or white if that's a preference.
The designs of those watches are all much more classic and likely to age a bit more gracefully.
>a good first everyday watch that would be fine in situations such as interviews
Formal and semi-formal situations? I'd go with a simple dress watch.
For budget and great looking, consider a Timex Easy Reader, $30, it's a white dial watch with leather strap, great for what you're going for.
What's your budget? Around the hundreds, I'd go with an Orient Bambino, it goes for around $120-$150. It's very classic, minimalist, has a dome crystal, and is not very distracting. It's an automatic too. There's 4 versions of the Bambino. I personally like version 1, and version 2 with blue hands.
A little higher, Timex has been doing some great reissues. The Timex Marlin, $200, is pretty understated but eye catching. It's a manual wind movement watch with a call back design. This will probably be my next watch.
Lastly, Tissot has some great automatic's. The Tissot Visodate, $400, is a fantastic watch for the price.
All these watches can be had for much cheaper if you're open to looking at the gray market (watch exchange forums, ebay, etc.). I hope this helps, at the very least to show what's out there. Cheers and best wishes!

I wouldn't limit choices based on the strap it comes with...
Consider these as well:
Tissot Le Locle,
Tissot Visodate,
Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic
Tissot Men's TIST0194301603101 Heritage Visodate Stainless Steel Automatic Watch with Brown Leather Band - $314

Visodate
Cocktail time
Alpinist
They're all leather bands, but you can swap in a bracelet for like $50-$80. If you don't want to do that, you can get this one. or this Orient.
Seconded. It has a very nice ETA automatic. And it is extremely close in looks to to Bulova's 1940s-1960s watches, when they were much more reputable. Check out this version, /u/jonessigphi.
Tissot visodate maybe?
I bought it on Amazon. The seller that I bought it from (Teelys) was fulfilled by Amazon, so I felt it pretty comfortable with it. I originally wanted to buy it from Jomashop, but the delivery range was too long -- I send packages to my office instead of my home and I was afraid of it getting sent over the weekend.
First time poster here.
I'm looking for a <$500 piece, preferably with a simplistic (perhaps bauhaus) design. I've narrowed my search to the following five options:
I think the Kent Wang is very classy, however, I'm not sure about build quality/the fact they aren't known for making watches. Same goes to Tsovet. The Tissot is a safe option, just not sure about the logo.
Thoughts on these five and/or other suggestions are much appreciated.
For $500 I would recommend Tissot Visodate or a Tissot T-Classic
Tissot visodate
https://www.amazon.com/Tissot-TIST0194301603101-Heritage-Stainless-Automatic/dp/B0041Q44T2
Tissot vissodate? Has dates on the dial. Will dip under $400 quite often, near 350ish
edit: maybe Seiko's cocktail time?
Not sure what you mean by the minute marker.
Have you considered the Tissot Visodate?
https://www.amazon.com/Tissot-TIST0194301603101-Heritage-Stainless-Automatic/dp/B0041Q44T2
I'm getting married soon, and I'm thinking about purchasing a semi-nice watch to wear on the date and mark the occasion! This wouldn't be a gift; it would just be for myself - and I'm still a student, so I can't afford all that much. Recommendations outside of the newest buying guide for a dress watch in the sub-$1000 range would be appreciated!
Right now, I'm looking strongly at two options:
Tissot Visodate - Pretty classic.
Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece - I don't know anything about Maurice Lacroix, but I really really love the look of this watch. Given that it's twice the price as the Tissot for what I believe is still an ETA movement, though, I'm not entirely sure I can justify it.
Thanks very much for your help!
The intramatic somehow reminds me of the Tissot Visodate, if only they made a smaller version.
Check the Tissot LeLocle. The one I linked is not very attractive but you can se the specs: 39.3 mm by 10 mm in height and there are other versions. Some had display backs.
I'm not that familiar with their catalog but oris has made some models that approximate what you are searching for, like this or this. Some models from the Artix line are 37-38mm.
A silver dial and no display back, but my dad had a Mido Commander.
I've been eyeing a few...Tissot Visodate, Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic, or maybe a Seiko SARX019.
With the second cuff button, I don't think any would be a problem.
a watch! linky
came here to say this. I like these watches for their slim, simple look, but I've had one that battery didn't last more than 6 months; another where the time-set pin got unscrewed which rendered the watch nonfunctional (couldn't set time).
It's worth it to buy a mid range watch (self-winding too!) if you want longevity.
EDIT: I know everyone has different views of frugal, but sometimes we're just looking for deals... the ROI on a mid-range watch will be greater for one of these (amazon.com) from my experience. I'm sure there are other great watches out there as well.
Hey everyone, thank you very much for the suggestions. After a lot of deliberation, I ended up ordering the Tissot Visodate.
I really like the clean aesthetic and vintage style. Thanks again!
Well before I thought I knew what I wanted, now I'm completely lost. I'm sure I'll make a post with my thoughts and seeking opinions. I just couldn't get into my Maratac Pilot so I sold that, I also gave a Ticino Pilot watch a go (thought I'd like the more plain look with less numbers), turns out I don't dig that either. I ordered a Rodina (I'm sure like a lot of people), because I have a mesh bracelet laying around and I wanted to have a mechanical watch in my arsenal. So now I just have the Rodina and my Seiko quartz in the rotation while I contemplate how much I want to spend. But these are on my radar (unless I get convinced I should spend more (or learn about other companies).
Maybe this Tissot Visodate
or this Seiko SARB Cocktail Time?
You could also probably find a Vintage Omega Deville if youre willing to spend a little more
That's a beautiful watch! Here are some alternatives you might check out and that might be available in Eastern Europe (...and might look a bit younger and thus look better in combo with a T-Shirt)! Cheers
