Getting your speakers properly coupled to the floor may do more good than spending a boatload on a new cartridge. Also may cancel the need for the wub-woofer

As for the phono pre-amp, I'd say it's worth it. I have the same amp but without the DAC (A-S500) and A/B comparison between my phono pre-amp vs the built in one is pretty different. I'm using the cheap $130 Chi-Fi "Little Bear Tube Phono Pre-Amp". Some assembly required, but it sounds great. Adds a little hum, but you will likely not notice it. Improves bass response in my findings, as well. The phono stage built into modern amps is "good enough". The Little Bear is outstanding.

The one I linked is an improved version of the one I bought just 6 months ago. They're making it more and more of a no brainer!

Is that considered better or are you recommending it because it's cheaper?
