As always with Newegg, people generally only post reviews there if they had a problem. This is nothing new.

Here's a faster hard drive with the same capacity for $3 more.

I have the PH3300U-1I72, which was the precursor to this drive. It's a little loud and runs a few degrees hotter than other drives, but it's fast and I've had no issues with it. I've heard that the 3TB P300 is largely the same drive, but with some of the heat/noise issues fixed.

Reviews on Amazon, Newegg, and B&H all seem to be good so far.

The 1080 ti would be a good long term investment if you hope to game for 4 years. It would be on its last legs by then in terms of relevancy to the games of the time (should current trends continue of course).

Here is a good hard drive from Amazon

In February I purchased a 3TB Toshiba drive for ~$90. It's solely dedicated to recording and I have zero complaints. Normally I'd buy Western Digital but Toshiba drives have been very reliable, especially for the price point.

Anyway here it is

Best of luck!

The Toshiba P300s are much higher quality HDDs with better reviews. I'd aim for those instead. I usually wait for them to go on sale. But hey, Western Digital is always a safe choice.

The Noctua NH-D15 is one of the best coolers on the market, I'd personally get it, but I understand that many favor aesthetics over pure performance. There's also the V8 GTS, the Le Grande Macho (funny name, strong cooler), the MasterAir Maker 8, the Scythe FUMA packs a bang for the buck (you could switch out the fans for LED fans), or maybe you'd like to try an AIO cooler?

If you want to see if that $70 Cooler Master CPU Cooler is worth pairing with the i7 8700K, how about filtering the reviews and seeing what you get?

I would personally get a better PSU. The new Corsair CXM are much better compared to their previous versions, but with this budget. I would not cheap out on the PSU.

EVGA G2 550W or Corsair RMx 550W are 2 of the best PSUs in this price range in terms of build quality & stability.

550W is also more than enough for this system that will pull about ~350-400W at most under load after you've overclocked the CPU & GPU.

And I don't know, but perhaps a bit more storage? The 1TB HDD is fairly expensive in terms of $/GB ratio. But the 2-4TB HDDs are much better.
Toshiba P300 3TB for $70 @ Amazon. That is $21 more for triple the capacity!

The rest is all very solid, the GPU & monitor are a great combination. Since it got freeSync. This is an AMD technology which allows you to sync your FPS with the monitor it's refresh rate. Which makes ~50 to 90 FPS feel like "144". It's super smooth and just a joy to use.

Nvidia also got this technology, called "Gsync". Which costs money and requires an Nvidia video card. Which would quickly raise the total to your max budget.

this is going on sale in neweggs BF deal for 70 dollars is this a good drive for games i may play for a month and trash later on/never play? or is this more for file management.

Looks like it's $90 on Amazon as well, in case you have Prime and need it faster.

Edit: Damn I'm dumb. Didn't even read the post title. Ended up spending an extra $20 on it for no reason through Amazon. Sorry all.

Occasionally, my HDD (https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Desktop-7200rpm-Internal-Drive/dp/B013JPLOQQ) makes a high pitched whining sound. But it's only super obscure things, like when I have a specific tab opened in Microsoft Excel or mouse-over a certain item in a video game menu. What is this whine, is it normal, and how can I get rid of it?
