Currently using this one, haven't had any issues yet. TP-Link N300 Wireless PCI-Express Adapter (TL-WN881ND) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_gpltybSZM86SE
Using this adapter with this craptastic router and I haven't noticed any issues with packet loss/latency that were caused by either of them over the 2 years i've used them.
This is with them being about 15-20 feet away from eachother and through a wall.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1WQVJ2NJ1RJ6ZC7ZZFNP&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846
This should work.
this thing. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1WQVJ2NJ1RJ6ZC7ZZFNP&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846
The build looks solid, just a few things
Edit. I found a $25 network card because I don't know you're willing to spend on one. https://www.amazon.ca/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Adapter/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1521507801&sr=8-7&keywords=network+card
Edit 2. There is a 15%OFF Everything On Ebay. https://pages.ebay.com/promo/2018/0320/7019.html
So I found this equivalent which should be $194 after the coupon without tax or you can get other ram. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Team-T-Force-Vulcan-16GB-2-x-8GB-288-Pin-DDR4-SDRAM-DDR4-3000-PC4-24000-Desk/201694919705?hash=item2ef5f43c19:g:GnsAAOSwa8dZ0P4~
If you want to upgrade something, your CPU is the biggest upgrade. But that would require a new motherboard and ram as well. So if you're happy with your current performance and don't get framerates drops just keep your current build.
>I don't have wireless and that is one thing I know I want to add. I suppose my question is: are any of the specs noticeably outdated and need to be upgraded?
You should be able to add a wireless card to your PC no problem, you just need an open PCIe slot.
Example: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0079XWMEI/ref=mp_s_a_1_4/140-0179609-2447108?ie=UTF8&qid=1521508356&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=pcie+wireless+card&dpPl=1&dpID=415vrQMpdJL&ref=plSrch
I use the (TP-LINK TL-WN881ND)[www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI] and the (Edimax EW-7811Un)[www.amazon.com/dp/B003MTTJOY]. I never had any problem with them
Something like this - http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI
is probably better and more reliable/stable for long term use and for gaming, than a USB solution. Just double check you have a free pcie expansion slot.
You can get any motherboard without WiFi and put a pci-e wireless card into it. Something like this one http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1452122647&sr=8-3&keywords=wireless+card
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079XWMEI/
If it is a desktop I am going to suggest an internal card if you have open slots. I have found that USB adapters are unreliable. And again this is just my experience, I have had two of them overheat on me with heavy use. EX. Downloading something while streaming YouTube has caused mine to overheat and be unrecognizable by the system.
I would suggest something like this.
Oh and make sure you have either a PCIe or a PCI slot and the corresponding card for it.
EVGA is enough of a well known company with reputable customer service that if something catastrophic happened they would almost certainly have your back. For $22 I'd go for it.
This wifi card would be fine for sub 150mbps speeds on the 2.4 GHz band. You'll want something more like this if you need faster speeds or want to use the 5GHz band.
I use hostapd with a TPLink PCI-Express card on one of servers (Debian) for my office wireless network. This is, of course, with routing enabled. Performance has been stellar. The machine in question has a Sandy-Bridge Xeon, and does a bunch of other things as well including being a KVM host.
lspci:
01:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9287 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)
cat /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf:

wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK

There's also this delightful script that sits in /etc/init.d/hostapd and which enables hostapd to run flawlessly as a system service. I find it extremely valuable to be able to be able to configure and manage my wireless AP in exactly the same way that I would any other Linux-based service.
generally speaking... usb wifi dongle suck. (range)
If you can afford it, get a pci card instead.
TP-Link TL-WN881ND 802.11b/g/n $21CAD
if you want to future proof....
D-Link DWA-582 802.11a/b/g/n/ac $40CAD
I've never heard of edimax but i know from experience tp link makes great wifi adapters for the money. Also trash the usb adapter and get a real card with antennaes.
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WDN4800/dp/B007GMPZ0A/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1511749543&sr=8-4&keywords=tp+link+wifi+adapter
or if you can't afford that i have this one and its great.
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1511749543&sr=8-7&keywords=tp+link+wifi+adapter
> NETGEAR N600 Dual Band N Adaptor
It's a USB adapter... Get a PCIe Adaptor if you can. TPLINK This is a favorite of mine it's not expensive and works really well.
This is what I use.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0079XWMEI/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1415745419&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40
It plugs into the mother board and has 2 screw on antennas that come out the back and angle to any desired direction. It has been extremely reliable for me
[usb wifi adapter] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00EQT0YK2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1413982857&sr=8-3&pi=SX200_QL40)
pcie wifi adapter
I have this wifi card: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
No issues at all, and doesn't take up a usb slot and block another like the usb one i had previously. Other than that the build seems pretty solid, though you could switch to a EVGA 600b psu for barely any more money and have 600w instead of 500w. The CX series has a bad reputation, though you'd still probably be fine either way.
http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-100b10600kr
This should do a pretty dang good job.
It has 2 PCI slots that works with wireless cards. Wireless cards don't need the same connection as a graphics card.
For example, this one should work with your motherboard: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0079XWMEI/ref=psd_mlt_nbc_B007GMPZ0A_pb
You would need a wifi card or wifi usb stick, like https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-network-Adapter/dp/B0079XWMEI. If there is the option try to use a cable though, if your wifi router is not really great a cable will get you a better ping and a more stable connection.
Looks awesome, the Twin Frozr is so quiet, they're awesome cards. One suggestion though is to get a different network adapter like this instead of a crappy Rosewill.
TP-link is both reputable and cheap. https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Beamforming-Technology-Archer-T4E/dp/B0079XWMEI?th=1
The included CPU cooler with the Ryzen 7 is a good cooler to do decent overclocking. You can also save a bit of money on the PSU by getting a 500-550w 80+ bronze rated PSU by corsair...
As far as a network card, my gf just bought this and she's been happy with it so far...
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1505540833&sr=8-2&keywords=pcie+wifi+card
You're fine for 16gb of ram. Anything over than that would be overkill for most games.
Just build any PC you want under your budget and add one of this [TP Link Wifi Adapter (15$)] (https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-network-Adapter/dp/B0079XWMEI)
You just need a free PCIE Slot on your motherboard.
No need to find a mobo with built in wifi IMO.
At $20 retail I think you're unlikely to find anything here shipped for cheaper.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_aYmwyb1MGY9E6

your google-fu is bad
for wifi, this is the cheap solution, N only
this is better, AC and Bluetooth
Something like this:
TP-LINK TL-WN881ND Wireless N300 PCI Express Adapter
A USB network device would be a USB Dongle.
Ah, sorry I forgot to answer this one. It would need to be a PCI-e WIFI card such as:
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1492130988&sr=1-1&keywords=pci-e+wifi
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/tTdqqs/gigabyte-wireless-network-card-gcwb867di
Basically any PCIe wifi adapter will work. I'd get something like this
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-Express-Adapter-TL-WDN4800/dp/B007GMPZ0A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492674096&sr=8-1&keywords=pcie+wireless
It has more features than you need, but still isn't that expensive at $35
If you just want the bare minimum at $16
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1492675033&sr=1-2&keywords=pcie+wireless
Assuming you don't live a densely populated area where lots of people will have their own networks, or your router is close to your computer then the second will be perfectly fine. The first will provide a bit more future proofing such as being able to connect to 5ghz networks.
If you're still looking, if you order $35 worth of stuff on Amazon, This will ship to you tomorrow for free.
Would this work for this issue? My son has an IBUYPOWER computer that is running wifi (steam) like garbage. I'm a little unsure of what to do
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-network-Adapter/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1542148853&sr=1-6&keywords=tp-link+wifi

or this one if you want something better https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-Express-Adapter-TL-WDN4800/dp/B007GMPZ0A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1497934145&sr=8-3&keywords=wifi+pci
USB is usually fine for most people. Internal PCIE cards are also cheap.
Do you know how many Mbps upload/download you have to your home?
It may not be an issue then. Just try out the dongle and if you feel it is giving you issues, you have 3 options.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1494026223&sr=1-1&keywords=TP-Link+PCIE

This is the card I used for a while. Works great. I do recommend some external antennae though, because they will help, but are definitely not necessary.
So there's this guy for $15 on Amazon after a coupon, up to 300 Mbps (37.5 MB/s) but can only work on your 2.4 GHz WiFi. What you linked is 2.4 or 5 GHz, and up to 800+ Mbps, or over 100 MB/s. Basically it depends on what sort of internet you guys have and how many devices are on your WiFi. Honestly the cheaper one will most likely be enough if all your mom does is online banking and light web browsing. Even for gaming/streaming stuff it would be fine.
You can also consider a PCIe Ethernet port like this to give you the same functionality that your broken Ethernet port would have.
Exactly. I recommend getting either of these two cards.
If you want something cheap and plug and play, get this card for $20.
If you want something with better speeds and also want Bluetooth at the same time, get this one for $39.
I would recommend this one, it’s great(I have it personally) and it’s on sale for only $15. Does not have 5ghz, but based on what you said i don’t think you’ll need it:
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-network-Adapter/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=tp+link+wifi+adapter&qid=1564180751&s=gateway&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sprefix=tp+link+wifi+a&sr=8-6
I used to use a PCI Express Wifi card, which worked well enough. You can also get a usb wifi dongle. Either should work without much issue on both Windows or Linux.
A motherboard with integrated wifi would work fine too. It just depends on what's most price efficient for you. Normally motherboards with the integrated wifi are a bit more expensive, but I would think the difference between buying a wifi-less motherboard along with some sort of wifi accessory and a wifi integrated motherboard is negligible.
Here's a cheaper one: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407336202&sr=8-1&keywords=TP-LINK+TL-WN881ND
No it will not.
You said you have a graphics card. That is in the PCIx16 slot. You need a wireless card that will fit in the PCIe slot.
Search on Amazon (or wherever) for Wireless PCIe adapter. Notice how there are less gold pins on the one I linked above? You need one that looks like that (again search for Wireless PCIe adapter).
Here is the one that you linked but in a PCIe version: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1463158710&sr=1-2&keywords=wireless+pcie
It'll just go under my desk.
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1397116208&sr=1-2&keywords=wifi+card+for+desktop
I just put this in my cart. Will this be difficult for a new user to install?
Lots of people get whichever motherboard fits their needs, and pick up PCI cards or USB dongles after.
PCI cards are generally better as they have antennae and can reach higher speeds. Here's a good one
However, with a mini itx build you may not have a PCI slot available, in which case you can get a USB dongle or wifi enabled motherboard. You shouldn't sacrifice features for wifi though.
+1 for PCI
I game and have never had problems connecting unless it was ISP side (boo comcast). I also stream Netflix and Amazon without any signal issues.
I use [this PCI-E adapter] (http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1405104552&sr=8-2&keywords=tp-link+pci+wifi) with good results. They also make regular [PCI] (http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN751ND-Wireless-Adapter-Low-profile/dp/B005FUGPP4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1405104552&sr=8-4&keywords=tp-link+pci+wifi) depending on what you have available. I'm sure the Rosewill one is quite good too.
I also picked up something similar to [this] (http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-ANT2405C-Desktop-Omni-directional-Antenna/dp/B001VEAI74/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1405104686&sr=8-11&keywords=tp-link+antenna) to help with my signal, since my room is quite far from my router. It will give you some flexibility on your antenna placement, and gave me a huge boost in signal.
For your purposes either would probably work but I prefer having the cleaner look of a PCI card and I'm under the assumption that there is better power/bandwith going through PCI. If you do go with USB, I suggest something like [this] (http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN722N-Wireless-Adapter-External/dp/B002SZEOLG/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1405104921&sr=8-14&keywords=usb+wifi) where you can add on an optional antenna if you have signal issues.
For PC shops, I know of Neo, and Ender Computers. Ender has a location in North Liberty, and a couple in CR. If you're heading up to CR, there's also Barbs. I think the rest of them have closed up though.
Do you not want to wait for it? Are you needing PCIe, PCI? It sounds like USB won't work for you.
N300 PCIe (only a few bucks more than the N150)
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI $18.99
N150 PCI (~$10 cheaper than the N300 PCI)
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI $13.74
Those could be in your hands wednesday with a free Amazon Prime trial.
TP-Link N300 Wireless PCI-Express Adapter (TL-WN881ND) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_QQhFT2u3MdxmJ
This card works great and I had no problems installing it. The speeds are just as fast as specified. TP link also have a lower speed card for less. This shouldn't affect latency though which is what you really care about for gaming.
need more info - desktop/laptop pci-e/usb?
if it's desktop/pci-e I suggest this. Just get the most expensive version you can afford.
you need to make sure you're looking at wireless cards, so you won't see those numbers. I'd look for something that at least supports wireless N. And the 5GHZ (dual band) if your router supports it. If it doesn't, there's no reason to spend extra.
Something like this would be a good place to start: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI Feel free to look for something cheaper. I know I have had very good luck with my TP-Link adapters.
Will this wifi adapter be compatable with my [ASRock AB350M Pro4] (http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/AB350M%20Pro4/index.asp#Specification)? I'm just confused by the N300 on the amazon page and I don't want to get something incompatable with my mobo
I may go with this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0079XWMEI/ref=psdcmw_13983711_t1_B007GMPZ0A
Cheaper, and I have 100 MBs so it will be fine me for my house
Don't go USB, I've had really bad luck with those.
On my last build, I used this TP-LINK one. It's done a great job, and stays out of my way.
Ah darn! I got this one and it has been working well for me: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833166073
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Get a Pcie card. USB isn't as reliable. I this one without issue, however you could pay more for dual band.
I bought the “TP-Link TL-WN881ND N300 PCI-E Wireless WiFi network Adapter card for pc” about 4 years ago for my PC that was too far across my home for an Ethernet connection.
About 6 months ago my WiFi speed on my PC would fluctuate up and down periodically, or randomly cut out. WiFi speed for my iPad/laptop were unaffected when this happened.
Is it possible this WiFi card can burn out or wear out over time? I know this may be a dumb question but that’s the only thing I can imagine it could be.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0079XWMEI/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Currently using the lower end version of this card (PCI-Express) and so far no issues. works out of the box with Windows 8 and this one supports 2.4 and 5GHz
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
So you're still planning the PC, nothing is built yet, correct? Do you have a list of parts? It's really hard to help with suggestions when we're given very little information :|
As for the WiFi card, if you absolutely have to have wifi, then get this ($60 - One of the best WiFi cards) or this (best sub-$20 card you'll find).
If you're able to, I would suggest getting a powerline adapter. You plug one into an outlet near your router and the other near your PC, then connect Ethernet cables and your Ethernet will connect through your electricity lines. This gives far better ping and consistency than wifi, but speeds are usually limited (anywhere from 25mbps to 125mbps depending on distance and wiring in your house).
is this still recommended? I got a wifi adapter and built my pc tonight, but realized that I can't connect to 5g- heres the one i bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought this wireless card and build up my PC last night. Previously I had a MoBo with a built in wireless card. I'm noticing higher ping and slightly lower speeds with this new card I'm using. While watching twitch at source quality it's buffering a bunch. Is this just a junk card or is something else wrong?
having some trouble with my download speeds. my internet is usually at around 60-70, but with wifi (i know, I do hardwire from time to time), I'm getting anywhere from 5-40. I'm using this adapter, which should be able to handle my actual speed.
anything else I can check/do to get the speed up?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That's the specific one I bought, but I couldn't tell you if it's better or worse than others.
I'd honestly go for a PCI E Wireless Adapter this maybe : http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1426129971&sr=1-1&keywords=PCI-E+Wireless+Adapter&tag=ireltechblog-20
That's only if you haven't looked into Powerline Adapter Kits (Something I truly recommend) such as the :
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-PA4010KIT-Powerline-Adapter-Starter/dp/B00AWRUICG/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1426130010&sr=1-1&keywords=Powerline+Adapter+kit&tag=ireltechblog-20
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079XWMEI/
Thanks - Ill definitely go with PCIe now.
As much as I like Asus - I was thinking of going with one of these two -
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079XWMEI/?tag=pcpapi-20
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006WWMZSK/?tag=pcpapi-20
They seem to get better reviews and are cheaper.
Also, This question may get a little technical- but certain standards such as 802.11a/b/g/n offer different speed rates. Since N is capable of 300mbs, isnt that a little overkill - considering my internet provider will give me something around 50mbps? I dunno just hoping your a comp whiz that knows everything - thanks for the advice!
Just add one one these
you can get this cheap wifi card, you just install it in a pcle slot
What's the difference between these two wireless cards aside from price:
Asus
https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Wi-Fi-Express-Adapter-PCE-AC56/dp/B00JNA337K
TP Link
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1506458576&sr=1-1&keywords=TP-link+n300+wireless+PCI-express+adapter+%28TL-WN881ND
And which would overall be the superior card to use?
And would both work with the new Z370 motherboards (that are compatible with the 8th gen intel processors that are coming out)?
Does it have to be PCIe 3.0? I just ordered one of the ones that he linked. This one to be specific.
What would get me the best WiFi connection for gaming? A motherboard or an antenna like this? https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-network-Adapter/dp/B0079XWMEI
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1502717219&sr=8-2&keywords=tp+link+wifi+card
I would just get this one. I have it and it works for OW and CSGO very well. Ping is constantly under 40.
I got this one for sale
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1502717219&sr=8-2&keywords=tp+link+wifi+card
The updated one to the one he linked.
How does it compare to something like this? I bought either this or something similar last year, and i get 3/4 bars of wi-fi from a couple rooms away (in a small apartment).
I have this wireless adapter and I get really shitty signal strength and speeds from my bedroom; I get much better speeds with my laptop and even my smartphone. I have a good wireless N dual band router. Is the problem that it's a single-band adapter? Would this dual-band adapter solve my problem?
Pretty much anything from Linksys or TP- LINK, thats 20$.
See about this one
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1452840378&sr=8-2&keywords=Wireless+PCI
Generally, PCI-E is much faster of an interface. However, Wifi speeds don't go nearly as fast as even the maximum speed of USB 2.0. So, speed-wise, it doesn't matter.
The USB one will be good for futureproofing your computer in case you later get a router with AC and 5GHz support. It's also nice in that you'll be able to preposition it to different USB slots for better signal.
For PCI-E, I would recommend this TP-Link one instead of the Rosewill:
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483091328&sr=1-1&keywords=wireless+network+card&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_three_browse-bin%3A6011949011%2Cp_36%3A700-2500
It's from (in my opinion) a more reputable company; it seems like it's a current model from their website; and it's a buck cheaper and will probably ship faster. Otherwise pretty much the same as the Rosewill.
There is a third alternative I found:
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-N300-Wireless-Adapter-TL-WN822N/dp/B00416Q5KI/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483092749&sr=1-3&keywords=wireless+network+usb&refinements=p_36%3A1253503011%2Cp_72%3A1248879011%2Cp_89%3ATP-Link
This would be especially great for if you know you get a bad signal between your router and computer. You can connect it via USB and then stick the device up high somewhere for maximum signal. If you have a place to put the device and don't currently have or have plans to get an AC or 5GHz router, this is what I would get.
I would drop the cpu cooler since the i3-6100 comes with one and that will be sufficient enough. The gtx 1060 is better than the 1050ti for only $50 more. Also the wifi card you have is overpriced and this does the same for cheaper. And I doubt you really need a cd writer but your choice. This is also a cheaper psu with close to the same wattage.
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1482693807&sr=1-4&keywords=wireless+card
You need this, it will connect to the motherboard using the small pcie slot.
Is it a desktop or laptop? "Best" can be a bit subjective when we're balancing affordable. Personally, I wouldn't want to go below a dual band n adapter, but you can very easily save money by going to a single band n. You could also look at going with a powerline adapter, which can potentially be a lot more reliable.
Edit: Bonus high end wifi card for comparison's sake. It's also worth noting that there's no sense in getting an ac card if you have an n router, unless you're willing to spend extra dollars to future-proof yourself.
This is the card I'm currently using and its worked quite well for the price. Just make sure you have an open PCI-Express port.
This the one? Looks to be PCI-E x1 so any PCI-E slot really. I'd avoid the x16 slot in case you wanna add a GPU at some point, if you have a PCI-E x1 slot just use that.
You'll need a wifi adaptor. http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=pd_sim_sbs_147_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=41rS1aE2IAL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR124%2C160_&refRID=0MNJE0W5SPK8MF8R1W2S
Just wondering why can't you get a ethernet cable in your room? It will be much better that a wireless connection.
Rosewill is a good enough brand. From what I can see on WikiDevi (a wireless chipset wiki), your card is a rebadged TP-LINK TL-WN781ND. I have the TL-WN881ND (same exact card but with 2 antennas), which I'm happy with. I get 180Mbps link on it, which is totally fine for my networking needs.
Depends on what computer he has. Is it a laptop? I put that card in my laptop to replace the older wifi card and it works perfectly. Is its a desktop you nay have to check the mobo or manual to see if it has a slot for a wifi card of that form factor
Here is another just for desktops. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_S8DHzbNKTEXV9
It is only single band though and if you spend an extra $20 you can get a dual band version.
I built my computer without a wifi adapter because I had direct access to a router. Since then I've moved to a house with shared wifi and I no longer have direct access, so I've been using phones or other devices on wifi and tethering them to the PC. This works ok for downloads and streaming but when i try playing online games like Rocket League I experience low ping (30-50ms) but still a lot of lag due to what I assume is packet loss.
Is the best option for me to buy a wifi adapter like this:
https://www.amazon.ca/Adapter-600Mbps-Wireless-Antenna-Support/dp/B01M0Q51UI/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1493994588&sr=1-1
Or to buy a card along the lines of this:
https://www.amazon.ca/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Adapter/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_9?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1493994588&sr=1-9
I haven't done any research into the products themselves im more curious if the shortcut of simply buying a USB adapter will address my issues.
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1417995069&sr=8-3&keywords=tp-link+pci.e
is enough if you just have 2x2 MIMO 2,4ghz N router.
Sure, what model of wireless router would you be connecting to? Recommendation would be based on whether or not it's N standard or AC, and whether or not it's single band or dual band (2.4ghz and 5ghz spectrums).
The one I currently own is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007GMPZ0A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That might be a bit much if you don't have a dual-band router.
This is the cheaper single band option:
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1418260345&sr=1-3&keywords=wireless+adapter
If you want to avoid pci-express and go with a usb option, here is a good one:
http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Wireless-Mbps-Adapter-TEW-624UB/dp/B000R5LWRI/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1418260613&sr=1-3&keywords=usb+wireless+adapter
Only go with the USB one if you aren't too far from the wireless router. The pci-express ones have 3 antennas for increasing signal reception range.
You can use a PCIe adapter like this or this
or you can use a USB wireless adapter like this or this
Wifi card- https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1493592379&sr=1-4&keywords=wifi+card

best of luck man. Have fun.
wireless cards can be bought separate and are easy to install.
I assume you mean usb dongles? yeah, those aren't great for long term use.
Is this a good wifi card for 300 mbps down internet speed?

I really hope it's not too late. I plan on making my new Pc with WLAN. I though / has been told to use something like this, a Wireless Link. I won't use that one because I have a new modern 801.11ac 5Ghz router. Do I have to look out for anything special when building a new Pc (Motherboard?) or can I just put it in everywhere even my 5 years old?
Wifi sucks for gaming. It's inherently unreliable just due to the nature of it. There is no way we can guarentee that if you buy "X" product your Wifi will be stable, there is so much variance in wifi setups. If you can run an Ethernet cable to your PC do it.
If you need to use Wifi get a PCI-e adapter if you can. This would be a decent basic one, more expensive ones are usually better, I have this one in one of my computers and have been very pleased with it. If you computer doesn't have any PCI-e slots then you'd get a USB Wifi adapter as a last resort. I'd stick to well known Networking brands like TP-Link, Linksys, Netgear and Dlink.
That's a wifi adapter for a laptop - it's very likely you don't have the proper slot to install it on a desktop. You need something like this probably:
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-network-Adapter/dp/B0079XWMEI
Or maybe a USB wifi adapter:
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-TL-WN725N-wireless-network-Adapter/dp/B01MR6M8EC
Those are just examples - you can find others if you shop around.
Here's a USB solution:

I recommend this if you have a spare m.2 slot:

This for if you don't:

The antennae on the card might not be connected, or the card could be failing. The connector to the antennae is tricky to connect, and you can easily damage them when you connect them. On the positive side replacement cards are $8 at NewEgg
https://www.neweggbusiness.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIV06X7DH8500&ignorebbr=1&source=region&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleBizMKPL-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleBizMKPL-PC-_-pla-Corn+International-_-Network+-+Interface+Cards-_-9SIV06X7DH8500&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4u-8tICz4gIVCsBkCh0M4QwFEAQYASABEgKubfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

If you are on a desktop, and have a spare PCI slot you could buy one of those in that format, and many have a place for an external antennae that will improve your signal and speed. In my mind the PCI-E mini cards are more for notebooks, but if your motherboard has that connection I can see why it was used. Here is a PCI wireless card for $18 at Amazon that is faster than the card you have.
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-network-Adapter/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=asc_df_B0079XWMEI/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309818716690&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15764911061575811937&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9026204&hvtargid=aud-643574997066:pla-343899285340&psc=1

Now for really great speed, run an ethernet cable from the router to your PC for some really blazing internet speed.
I would check the drivers and make sure you have the most up to date ones, as your card could be find, just needs new drivers. You might check HP's site.
Try going into device manager, finding the device and searching for updated drivers online (will need to do it over an ethernet connection obviously). Maybe there is a compatibility issue with that driver. Alternatively, download older drivers from the manufacturer website if available and try those. Those USB adapters can be glitchy sometimes. If that doesn't work, have him buy a TP-Link TL-WN881ND N300 and try that out. They work well and are fast enough for general use, while being cheap and coming with brackets for small and larger form factors. They are on sale on amazon right now actually. If it has to be a USB one try a different TP-Link one, they are usually pretty reliable.

Edit: by searching for updated drivers online, I mean right click > update driver > select search for updated drivers online in the box that appears
Alright, so recently I bought this wireless network adapter based on recommendations from this subreddit: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI
I currently have my computer set up maybe 25-30 feet away from the router, and I am getting 2 to 3 bars of signal strength, with poor download times (600 kB/s to 1.2 MB/s) and bad latency lag on games (500-800 ms). I don't think that it is the ISP, since I was getting over 3 MB/s downloads while I was connected with a LAN Cable.
I've tried to download the latest driver from the website, but I'm not sure if it went through. It came with a disk to install but I don't have a disc drive. Is there any way to fix this shit?
Here's my parts list if it helps anyone http://pcpartpicker.com/user/VTWut/saved/PZNYcf
Edit Fixed, it was an issue with the router, apparently the router software wasn't reinstalled when our home computer was updated (currently at my parent's place), so it was putting out a wireless signal, just a really crappy one.
sure, do you think that this specific one would be good?https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-network-Adapter/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1539260562&sr=1-5&keywords=wifi+card
It's better to get a reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy long ethernet cable since wired is always than wireless, if you don't then get this
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079XWMEI/?tag=pcpapi-20
you will need to get a wireless card like this one http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1458276707&sr=1-3&keywords=wireless+card
Yeah you'll need a wireless card. To answer your next question. I have this one and it works great. If you want to save a little money, this one is also good, but it doesn't have dual band wireless.
Do you know if this will work? Simply because its cheaper.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_7izyzb5BWGQEA
$650 Build
+$40 Wifi adapter
+$100 Windows 7 64 bit
+$80 240GB SSD for OS and Games
= Total $800ish without OS or SSD
This should be able to handle BF4 on Ultra at 1080p with 60fps
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
EDIT Cheaper WiFi card for $20
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1491542682&sr=1-3&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_two_browse-bin%3A6011943011
This one is half the cost. I use it myself, works great.
Here is a basic one.
Here is a better one with Wireless AC capability
I would recommend [this] (https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1494817422&sr=1-1&keywords=pcie+wireless+network+card) one. It's affordable and works.
What's the difference between USB Wifi dongles and PCI Express Wifi cards?
Example of a dongle
Example of a card
Unfortunately the NIC card you picked is quite old. Just looking at its specs, it is only an "N" wireless card that only supports 2.4ghz WiFi, which means limited performance on channels that can be quite crowded. But even then, it should not be so painfully slow as to not be useable at all in most cases.
However, looking at the reviews on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-Wireless-network-Adapter/dp/B0079XWMEI
the very first question asks if they are ever going to release a Windows 10 driver for this card, and the answer seems to be NO. It's just one bit of proof on a review comment, but it fits your problem and makes sense.
Question:
Any one knows a windows 10 fix? I am getting better signal and stability on my phone and laptop. :(
Answer:
I opened a support ticket with TP-Link and their response was that they would not support this card on Windows 10. They said they will not be providing a driver and that I could use Qualcomm's Atheros driver, but that was not working. So the solution to this problem is to buy a supported WiFi adapter. I had the same problem with an Nvidia graphics adapter where the only solution was to buy and install an ATI=based card. see less
By Riggsveda on October 3, 2016
I'd Google your card's model number and "Windows 10 driver" to get more confirmation, but it looks like that card is too old and not supported on W10.
Look for a new card that has "AC" and 5ghz support, it'll make a big difference. Be sure it has W10 drivers before buying, of course ;-)

This is the one I use, and it's alright. 50mbps dl near router when my MBP get 100mbps dl anywhere in the house lol. I'd recommend ponying up to get one $10-$20 more, but that's up to you.
You can get a PCIe wifi adapter and load up their drivers and such and connect via wifi. You can also use a USB wifi adapter, I don't know if one's better than the other, but I prefer PCIe.
If you want wired, you can get a Powerline adapter, which lets you connect wired/wireless by plugging it in to an electrical socket and pairing it with another adapter, I don't know the details of it (I'm planning to get one), so further research won't be bad.
Like this? Or do you have any recommendations? https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wireless-PCI-Express-Adapter-TL-WN881ND/dp/B0079XWMEI
Not a lot for under 10 dollars. This one isn't bad and its about 17 dollars.

Unless you have a lightning fast connection, that ought to do it, actually.
After a few weeks of using my new computer, I've noticed that my download speeds are not what I'm used to getting. Ran a speedtest on both my PC and my iPhone and the difference is staggering. Is there anything I could do to even things out because its become a little frustrating. Here's a comparison of the speeds: http://imgur.com/a/BzfHw
Could i possibly be my Wifi card or is it an issue o could fix in my routers settings? Thanks for the help!
EDIT: Forgot to add the WiFi card that I am using
As you're finding out, what you pay is what you get. If you care about high performance, you want to avoid USB adapters for WiFi unless it's a last resort or there's a technical limitation of the device you're trying to get on WiFi.
I'd go for a PCI/PCI-E wireless NIC with actual, physical rubber duck antennas (assuming you have a free PCI/PCI-E slot). The antennas are critical regardless; you can find these on USB adapters too, but usually only 1 (and you want at least 2 for high throughput). You're probably looking for something like either of these, depending on the exact model of your wireless router:

http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Wireless-Express-Adapter-TL-WDN4800/dp/B007GMPZ0A (for 3x3 wireless routers, dual band 2.4/5.0 GHz A/B/G/N)
I would probably recommend the first one as baseline, but urge you toward the second. If your wireless router supports the 5.0 GHz band (A/N), then it'd be worth looking at the second card instead. The second card is overall of a higher quality regardless. Note that with either card, your computer will need a PCI-E slot.
It's probably the cheapest/easiest to just get a wifi adapter and use that. They can be had for about $20.
Or you can try Powerline Adapters. Which are a little more, but make a hardline connection similar to ethernet between the modem/router and the computer.
I'm not sure I'd muck around with anything else unless you fall into a strange usage case.
Should I risk trying to make the 2 work, or just go with another memory module ($2 difference, ADATA instead of Kingston, not blue, from Newegg not Amazon)? I am leaning towards the latter: better safe than sorry.
It really depends on how much you'd want to spend on it.
My friend has this one and it's pretty quick for 20 bucks, but he isn't very far away from the router.
But if you're farther away and looking to spend more, This is the best seller on Amazon
this should do the trick.
