I asked a pharmacist about alternatives to meloxicam (nsaid). They pointed to curcumin extract with pepper, but be careful - they told me based on the studies they have read (which are mouse models only), therapeutic benefit was only evident in high doses.

I began taking 0.5g curcumin with bioperine this summer. It does about as well as a daily 15mg meloxicam and doesn't burn a hole in my stomach.

However, I had to find a brand that was third party tested (because supplements are not FDA tested) and I had to do math to figure out just how much curcumin the products even have, because the tablets advertise their weight instead of the actual curcumin content.

I ended up going with this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G1DB67P/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_eoKRDb5K3VCV0

5 tablets a day minimum. Seems to work OK, not as a painkiller, but as an anti inflammatory to decrease overall pain.
