Looks like it is done with paint, but obviously with a Wacom tablet or similar device. Either way, looks great!

I used this before I switched to flash. Nonetheless it's a good program.

Edit: I'd also recommend getting him a Wacom tablet. Much more comfortable than drawing with a mouse. [(http://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Bamboo-Connect-Tablet-CTL470/dp/B005HGBEYS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393708183&sr=8-1&keywords=Wacom+Bamboo+Connect+Pen+Tablet+%28CTL470%29)]

Is your screen a touchscreen? If so then you can just get a stylus, they are rather common. If you don't have a touch screen then your best bet is something like this pad from Wacom.

I personally have a ctl 480 because it was cheaper than a 470 at the time of purchase. I don't know how the 470 performs compared to the 480 but if you live in the US, buy it here. I don't know if this is a sale or how long this price lasts but it's dirt cheap for a Wacom.

I remember reading an AMA with Khan academy on Reddit a while back in which he said he used a Wacom Bamboo tablet Here on Amazon which may be worth a look.. fairly inexpensive as far as pen tablets go to my experience but I don't know what budget you were looking for.

Lets!

I use a Wacom Bamboo at work (until my Cintiq gets here).

It's pretty damn awesome for the money you spend and makes digital inking so much easier.
I've found when using tablets the size doesn't make a huge difference. You won't use most of the drawing space or find that you run out of room. So if you see for $70 bucks vs another that is $200 with no added features but size don't be sucked in.

I know she answered you in a reply, but this is what she's talking about if you didn't know. This is a cheap one I just bought actually.

I love amazon prime

Wow, that would be extremely impressive. I'm pretty useless with drawing stuff unless I am heavily relying on a reference sheet. I use one of these I got for really cheap CTL-470
