Edit: Nevermind they're different. This one is faster.
It's cheaper on Amazon

Also, if you're dead set on getting that drive, Dell is overcharging you for it (as usual).
Is there any reason youre not considering a M.2 SSD? I could only find this for $20 more and I think it might turn your already good build into a better one. (PCIE vs SATA interfaces)
This motherboard is somewhat cheaper. There are some other mobos out there but if youre planing on overclocking, I heard that a better VRM is ideal. VRM quality can roughly be estimated based on the number of VRM components (the small squares near the CPU is a good indication).
Also have you considered AMD? I'm not exactly sure how the 2600 compares (but I think theyre similar). The Ryzen lineup is all unlocked, and the cost of an overclockable motherboard is much less. This might save like $50.
As for 4x4 vs 2x8 probably just go for 2x8 so you can add more in the future.
Good price. I think the closest comparison in terms of price and speed is the WD "Black" x4 NVMe drives that don't quite perform as well as some of their 4 lane counterparts, here for ~$192. Those spec 2050MB/s while some users quote around 1700MB/s actual. This drive states 1600MB/s but I have no idea how it actually performs.
The differences in speed is because you are looking at the form factor and not the connection type.
NVMe m.2 drives offer the highest speeds as they are connected through Pci-e lanes.
Sata m.2 drives are connected via the sata interface thus you get the same speeds as 2.5" Ssd drives.
What you plan on using that drive will dictate whether or not NVMe is beneficial or not. If you are just using as a boot drive or solid state back up go with sata drives. If you need the speed for various programs or you don't care about the price go with the NVMe.
Edit: WD Blue 1tb M.2 SATA = $368
Vs
WD Black 512gb M.2 NVMe = $240
With the Asus ROG Strix, you get 2 m.2 ports if I'm not mistaken, you should send your WD Blue back and get an M.2 NVME SSD better.
It is 40 bucks more expensive, maybe less if you find it somewhere like microcenter, but, this will allow your hardware to run to its full.

Looking for a 500GB - 1TB M.2 drive, but there seems be be huge differences in quality/speed, etc even in the same form factors. I'm not looking for the absolution top tier one (don't want to break the bank).
I have the apex IX mobo for reference, which takes most of them I believe.
Currently looking at this one:

Hey I'm looking for m.2 SSDs and i found this one. I was going to do something in the samsung 950/960 evo/pro line, but this seems to be unbelievable for the money. Am I missing something or should I get this card?
Got 500gb M.2 SSD for $168 today.
It comes from Amazon Warehouse but I've never had a problem with it.

Here's an actual pretty good price on a NVME which are like 2-3x faster than SATA.

I bought an M.2 NVMe SSD.
This guy: https://www.amazon.ca/Black-512GB-Performance-SSD-WDS512G1X0C/dp/B01MR4VOBZ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1523471586&sr=8-1&keywords=wd+black+512gb
Now I'm just unsure how i'll go about setting up windows and all in there. I might try to clone the hard drive first and see.. otherwise try a fresh install of everything and follow dell's BIOS / driver steps.
I don't think the Black comes in a 1Tb? If you were looking at the 512Gb that would be about $30 cheaper and would be a better deal if they perform the same (I don't know how they compare).

This will be true of quite a few motherboards. Just be sure to read the MOBO manual before deciding which SATA port to plug your HDD into. You just don't want to plug it into the SATA port that will be disabled due to your use of the M.2 port. Worth mentioning, is that today's Amazon deal of the day is a good 512gb M.2 NVMe drive. Not sure if it translates in AUD pricing, but check it out:

Regular SSD that is not installed into the M.2 slot is limited to SATA speeds, M.2 can run at PCIe speeds so is faster than SATA. M.2 PCIe drive that I use is a WD Black 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD.
