This is the one I got. It works great for me.

I got this 500gb hard drive two and a half months ago for $57.

It's only $48.50 now.

With downloading every single free games on PSN since then, and then a handful more that I've purchased, I'm only about 200 gb full or so. It'll be probably just enough to finish this generation off when you add in all of the titles I'll still download after the PS4 launches.

I found this 320GB 2.5" HDD on Amazon for $46.28, and that's just Amazon, not even trying very hard. If Sony got a few hundred thousand of them at 2/3 the price ($30) it wouldn't be worth their time to make a $269.99 and a $299.99 SKU for with/without a 320GB HDD.

ETA: The 500GB unit goes for $51.49 and 1TB units go for $66.64. If they charge $299 for a 320GB unit and $399 for a 1TB unit, people would pay that, but Sony would make (if they paid retail!) almost an extra $80 on the 1TB units.

They never manufactured a 4GB PS3, ever. Only the 360 comes with a 4GB hard drive. If you bought one with a 4GB hard drive, someone screwed with it needlessly before you got and put an old as hell hard drive in it before selling it.

To the point of your question though, for $46 you can pick up a 500GB sataII hard drive to throw in there. One other thing to bear in mind is that hard drives do fail and 60GB hard drives are not even manufactured anymore. So if you've found one, its probably rather old and I wouldn't risk it. As for changing out the hard drive in a PS3, there is always a panel that comes off from the side of the unit and you pull out a tray and simply swap out the existing hard drive with the new one.

How about the WD Blue ones? Or do they all have this auto-park issue? This one seems to work well with the PS3: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037NYQ6Q/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Buy a HDD from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037NYQ6Q/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought this one a few months ago and it works like a charm.

Ditto. I just put a Western Digital 750gb in mine a month or so ago.

OP, here's a WD 500GB for near the same price.

Or a 750GB for only $10 more.

Also, I don't see many specs from that HDD that you posted. Is it 7200rpm? Get 7200 RPM. Here is a VERY similar one to yours. Still recommend the hybrid. Get some sweet SSD speeds. You do NOT need a "mac" certified hdd. Its all the same.

Have you tried Amazon? You could get a 500GB Western Digital for just over £40.

You can also get generic (aka refurbished) 80GB disks from Amazon for £20 but I personally don't think it's worth the risk.

500 GB hard drive...100 dollars...? What?

$56.22

$57.95

$59.99

$51.23

And the Kinect is not the same justification - the justification given here is that the cheapest Blu-Ray players at the time were more expensive than the entire PS3. And that it was something useful outside of the system, not a gaming peripheral. 2/10 for effort.
