It might be one-thirdhalf again the price, but think of it as buying one Swissgear vs buying two WoT bags. Quality counts, you get what you pay for. Whenever I pick up new gear, I don't mind spending extra for something that lasts. For 25 bucks more, you're going to end up with something you have to actively try to damage.

This one's the only one I feel good about giving a recommendation for because it's the only one I've got personal experience with. It's tough, it's water-resistant, and has lots of space. If I did a blanket "You can count on any SwissGear" that'd just make me a shill. That said, I'd feel a lot more comfortable buying a SG than any novelty pack.

The problem is trying to get something to do more than it's intended for. [This is probably the closest you're going to get.] (http://www.amazon.com/SwissGear-JETT-Computer-Notebook-Briefcase/dp/B004N1IISS/ref=sr_1_24?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1406497889&sr=1-24&keywords=Swissgear) Personally, I didn't care for the looks, and pretty sure it had less space/padding than the one I've got. You might not be able to tell, but that entire buckle down cover (the one in my OP) is made of armor-bump foam padding. I also prefer having separate closeable sections. Don't really care for open-top compartments.

Honestly, you should just head to Office Depot and check them out first-hand, make sure they're going to carry everything you want to carry. If you're going to be carrying a lot of weight, probably want a GP backpack. Just a computer or one or two books and some notebooks, messenger works fine.

If you drop to the 40 dollar mark with SG, you're pretty much just getting a laptop/file carrier. You're going to end up holding your books, or going to have an overloaded bag that may end up breaking on you.
