This is a really good calibration disc I recommend to everyone: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00462PTDQ

So the Xbox Dolby Vision issue is a weird and sore subject. Basically Microsoft and Vizio couldn't agree on the version of DV they wanted to utilize so the Xbox would report that Vizio 4k displays were using an older and not compatible version of DV ( it would show up as a yellow mark in the Xbox output screen ). Finally MS decided they were going to utilize a low latency version of DV and Vizio agreed to support that w/ a firmware update ( v 2.1.7.1 ) that rolled out literally w/ in the last two weeks : https://www.reddit.com/r/VIZIO_Official/comments/bhcz59/new_firmware_version_2171_for_the_2018_d_e_m_p/

Here's the rub though, essentially this update enables DV only for Netflix and NOT for 4K DVD playback. For discs we're still stuck w/ HDR10 only. Rumor has it that DV support *may* be coming for discs at some vague undetermined point in the future, but it's been rumored for a while now and hasn't materialized yet. IMHO it probably won't show up until the next generation game consoles since speculation is full on that those will be coming next year from both MS and Sony.

As far as 720 & 1080 content is concerned, the native upscaler is descent ( I would imagine it might be a bit better on the PQ65f vs the P65f? ) but my experience has been that native content matters a LOT! We have a Dish Hopper that outputs in 1080i natively but I can tell huge differences even between different programs. A suggestion I would make would be to get a descent A/V receiver that can handle the upscaling. I have a Denon 2200 that upscales 1080i/60 input to 4k/30 and seems to work better than the display's native upscaling .

Edit: I used the Disney WOW HD calibration disc. It's actually considered to be one of the better ones on the market apparently.

I do not own a BenQ, but have spent a fair amount of time in monitor calibration. These few points are universal across all monitors and TV's

  • You want to turn everything that has a On/Off setting to Off. Here's a small list: Motion Smoothing, Black Extension, Vivid Color, Noise Reduction (NR), and C.A.T.S.. The only exception is Game Mode.

  • Ideally, a 1080p monitor will be it's clearest at 0 Sharpness when running 1080p content. Although, I have had the pleasure of owning some sets that were defective and looked worse at 0. :/

  • The vivid setting makes colors too colorful, which makes details more difficult to see. The Standard and Movie/Cinema presets are almost always much better.

If you would like to take it a step further, a blu ray calibration disc + blue filter glasses would be the easiest and cheapest way to go. The disc that I use is Disney WOW, and it's easy. It explains each pattern before introducing them and is very user friendly. I found the links if you're interested:

Edit: You use the glasses on the color pattern ;)

Edit 2: Monitors use full range. So you have to go to your PS4's Video Output Settings and change RGB Range to Full.
