we have a shar pei, didnt mind feet touching or nail clipping until one time a vet tech without being asked starts clipping his nails and quicked him pretty bad. after that day it was all over, major freak outs, thrashing, squirming impossible to hold down. He was even banned from two separate vet clinics because he threw such a fit (even tore one vets pants). I had nearly given up and thought we would just have to live with the judgmental stares from other dog owners at his nails clanking around. I found a very quiet nail grinder on Amazon and I cannot believe how well it has worked for us. Usually we will give him some benadryl (ok'ed by his vet) this usually makes him drowsy and calm enough that I can use the nail grinder on all nails and get them down. we do this several times a week. he still has a ways to go to get them to a proper length but so far it has been like a miracle for us. here is the link to the grinder I bought. obviously not as powerful as an actual dremel but also much much quieter, on high I would say its about as loud as a spin brush toothbrush but dampened. Obviously this wont fix all the fear and behavior issues but it may at least help with the nail part.
