Check out /r/BikeCammers and /r/CyclistsWithCameras. Plenty of people do ride with cameras on their helmet, body, or frame.

You have gotten some truly high-end recommendations on here. If you're only interested in trying out the whole dash-cam thing, I recommend the Yi Action Camera. It's a decent mid-range camera. You could pick up some cheap mounts or straps and the whole thing wouldn't set you back more that $80, and you could see how you feel about filming your rides.

Ok here's what i did since

A) I didn't want to spend the $$ on a go pro and

B) I wanted a camera that is easily scripted (or hackable if you will).

I got the Xiaomi Yi Action cam with the water proof case for about $75

Stuffed it with memory

Grabbed some adhesive mounts for $8

And enabled this script that allows you to just push the on button when you hook a fish and the cam will take a photo every two seconds until you shut it off. You end up with a lot of photos but it's easy to sort though and just grab the good ones. The script also allows you to set different exposure and quality settings which make for some great pics.

If you go this route hit me up once you get the cam and I'll share out there script I use.

If you were looking to spend a little more then the YI Action Camera works pretty good. I personally use it on the trails and it works well.

Along with the camera I would get the Proshot Helmet Mount System if it works with your helmet. I also use this on the trails and it hasn't moved at all since I put it on due to the heavy-duty velcro they use (I've also crashed a couple times while it was on and it hasn't budged). The chin mount also has no wind resistance, so when going fast speeds your head wouldn't get pulled to a side and branches wouldn't knock it off your helmet.

A Sandisk Extreme MicroSD is what I use and it is fast enough to do 1080p 60fps.

Overall this would cost you ~$140 for all three items. The camera also comes with a free battery offer on amazon so you would have two batteries to get you through a couple riding sessions. (Each battery lasts a little more than an hour)

Here is some footage at 1080p 60fps
