I bought two of these per someone's recommendation way back and they have served me well. Good if you have a low enough ceiling. Sturdy enough to keep the lighthouses stationary. The only con is that the lighthouse clips have rubber pads which seem to chemically react to the plastic on the arms of this product (it looks almost melted together after a couple years now. Doesn't detract from function though.

Aussie checking in. I have a less industrial version of what the guys here are suggesting:

It's a tension pole from a shower shelving system, spring loaded so it presses between the floor and ceiling. 6 months in and the setup has been rock solid (im lucky enough to have a high cupboard with 240V AC inside of it on the other side of the room). Bought on amazon, you just gotta find an item they will ship internationally. Here's the link for the one i purchased:

Alternatively you can hit up the hardware, some terms to help you get your google fu on: contractors poles, drywall poles, tension poles.

You'll also need a suitable clamp. It takes a standard 1/4-20 camera mount.

Is free standing a requirement? I use bathroom towel racks with clip-on camera mounts.

Wow that last link, the tension pole, seems like it could be a good cheap solution!

What about something like a floor to ceiling tension rod?

(I'm guessing you'd be able to find or jury rig something less expensive than that particular item.)

A floor to ceiling rod seems like it'd be an even more stable non-permanent solution than the tripod solutions people have been talking about, with the advantage of having a smaller, almost non-existent footprint.

edit: Here's a cheap floor to ceiling shower caddy pole that might do the trick:

I got these along with these. Haven't gotten them or the Vive yet so I can't speak to how well it works, but it should do the job. Two of these with two clamps were $56, and less space than a tripod.
