There's no question that the slick surface doesn't hold the seasoning as well as rougher surfaces. However, in my experience that's purely cosmetic. It is still has a smooth, non-stick surface, even when it's looking patchy. I've had the 10" for about a year and the 12" just a couple of months. Both fight the seasoning, but both are steadily getting darker.

It is a heavy skillet, and the handle adds to that. However, for some things, the extra thermal mass is an advantage. The handle stays cool enough to handle quite a bit longer than more traditional handles, but I have found a handle cover that works just fine. I don't use it all that often though -- it's only necessary if I'm cooking something for an extended period. When it comes out of the oven I just use a mitt.

The pour anywhere lip works pretty well.
