Reddit mentions: The best office tables

This is a cages by design H2 custom tank. Cages by design makes locking stands but they start at $400 for a 30"H x 48" W x 24" D stand plus probably about $100 in shipping. I've checked craigslist but couldn't find any tables or aquarium stands that fit my needs. I've also considered TV stands or even simple things like this:

But they just seem a bit drab and overpriced for how simple they are. Ideally I want something that looks nicer than what I have now for $300 or less.

I currently have my cage sitting on 2 saw horses which are covered by a table cloth. I also do not have the tools to build my own stand at this time or else I would make a project out of it.

I'm also considering something like this but I'm not sure if it would fit due to losing about 1/2" on each dimension of width and depth. I just measured my cage and it's about half an inch below 48x24x24 in each dimension.

A figure 8 is a classic kind of table top fastener. It’s quite simply what it sounds like - a figure of eight in metal. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Steel-Figure-Table-Connector-Fastener/dp/B06XZ3N4ZG

You drill a depression into the wood with a diameter equal to one of the loops on the figure of eight. Make sure it’s flush with the top. Then you drill a hole and screw the fastener in.

They’re advantageous because they allow for a slight swivel, preventing the wood from shaking in humidity changes.

I was thinking of something like that for locking it in place. The inspiration was even the same - the cam locking fence on my tablesaw, but I wouldn't find anything that was small enough, and the fact that anything I found would have to be drilled into the edge of plywood made me nervous about the idea.

I did also think about having something that was flush with the bottom of the french cleat, and rotated out like a sliding latch, but again I just found size to be an issue, along with attaching to the bottom edge of plywood. Some of the things I thought about using:

Both of the "latches", I wouldn't use the part that goes on the other side. I think the little figure 8 fastener with maybe an insert nut and a thumbscrew might be the simplest solution.

You can buy metal versions at many places. Figure 8 clips (also available at many places) do the same thing, it's just a matter of preference as to what you use.
