Instant is so expensive here so I purchase this bundle from Amazon - Nagatanien Instant Low Sodium Miso Soup Sampler - 6 Flavors, 12 Servings https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00851Y03Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_SgvDktnpTa9nm

It's not aa good as making it yourself but it's the best instant I've found.

This brand of miso I found on Amazon is actually shelf stable. I use the brown rice version and the light sweet version all the time.

www.amazon.co.jp/テーオー食品-テーオー-マー油-380g/dp/B007TR42TC on my mobile this is the best I can do for now.

Sounds like you're in the UK so I'm not sure this'll work for you but I have bought something like this before. I got a bag for probably $10US, maybe at a costco, there was a bunch of packets of miso which as you said probably makes 100-200ml, and a corresponding package of freeze dried tofu and seaweed that rehydrate in the soup in literally seconds.

It's not something I've used for a while (since finding the excellent asian supermarkets in my city and getting a big jar of miso). These are the ones I had used in the past https://www.amazon.co.uk/Japanese-Miso-Soup-Sachets-90g/dp/B004K7OLOA
Many varieties also have bonito, but I think these are just miso.

You could consider replacing the snacks with some low/no calorie alternatives. Mini-cucumbers, celery sticks, broccoli florets, cauliflower, etc. Another thing I recently found are these instant miso packets, which are only 30-40 calories each. Make a rule that if you aren't willing to eat one of the acceptable snacks, then you aren't actually hungry.

Depends on what you can get where you live, but some people may want prioritize these:

  • long chopsticks for cooking
  • this sieve/net for draining rice or vegetables after washing (number one hit for souvenirs/gifts)
  • miso strainer for miso soup
  • daikon/yamaimo grater
  • knives (really you're going all the way to Kappabashi and not pick up up at least one knife?) and get a 1000/6000 whetstone while you're at it

Now, all the nutrition info is in Japanese, unfortunately, and I'm still not sure what all the flavor packets are, but they're all about 25 calories, and I think I figured out that they have 0 or 1 carb each.. I add a little chicken broth mix to add to the flavor.

Much is but not all. And yes lists here and the other subs

And bulk is often a decent price. You'll get sick of spaghetti and tuna, but it's fine for keeping?
