Might I suggest a different direction, which is better and more fun for you and the kid. Skip buying the wood, skip buying hinges, skip cutting here, and skip cutting there. Figure out how to attach this safely to the outside of your home, shouldn’t be difficult. It can be placed on the ground against the building when not in use, if you like. Or figure out how to also be able to attach it on her bedroom wall, because you can pull it inside when not in use to the outside, because it won’t be very heavy, and she can climb to play on it, or put her dolls on it, or firetrucks, or whatever. https://www.amazon.com/Cool-Slide-Green-Lifetime-Warranty/dp/B003UJFWG0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473813131&sr=8-1&keywords=8%27+plastic+slide

That sounds like a decent idea however, if there aren't already holes in the slide, drilling them could mess with the structural integrity of the slide.

While a more expensive option, this is pretty cool https://www.amazon.com/Fantaslides-Swing-Sloopy-Slide-Cover/dp/B001L6AXSQ/ref=sr_1_1
