There's a super great site for getting reviews called voraciousreadersonly.com! I decided to try it out recently, since I'd been seeing ads for it everywhere. You fill out a form, pick a day, and they'll list your book as available for review and send you the names and emails of the first 25 readers to request your book. All of those readers have agreed to join your newsletter in exchange for a free digital copy of your book, so you can grow your platform as well as gather reviews!

As a self published author with a VERY small promotion budget, I've actually had great success with their services!! Out of the 25 people I contacted, only 2 or 3 didn't get back to me about what kind of file format they'd prefer. 7 have left reviews on Goodreads, and a few have reviewed it on Amazon as well.

I'm currently testing out their evergreen free trial. My newsletter has grown by 60 people, and I haven't had to pay a cent.

If you're very confident in your book and willing to dedicate a little bit of time to finding the reviewers, you can also reach out to some of the people on the Amazon Top Reviewers list. I've received one review this way.

I guess this is a very long answer to say, no, I haven't paid for any reviews on big name sites. (I haven't paid for any reviews at all) Also, an important thing to keep in mind is that many of them will only review traditionally published books.

Here are the links to my Amazon and Goodreads book pages so you can see the range of reviews I've gotten so far! Best of luck, and if you ever want to swap reviews, feel free to dm me!

Hi all,

This is a bit different because it's not my self-published book, but my grandmother's! But since she doesn't really do the internet I thought it would be ok to post on her behalf :) She has just published her first collection of poetry: Tangerine: Poems at 94.

Mary-Jean "Tangerine" Bell began writing little rhymes at four years old, and has continued to write poetry throughout the subsequent 90 years of her life. She has previously been published here and there, but this is the first collection of her own work. Her poems are evocative and playful, and I am so terribly proud of her.

This is the official blurb:

>Not your grandmother's poetry! Witty observations on the human condition, tender meditations on the nature of love, imaginary excursions into other creature's minds - Tangerine Bell's poems provoke chuckles, recognition and reflection. Thoughtful, soaring, sensual, unsparing, and downright funny – her poems reflect and refract the richness of her imagination, loves and experience over more than 90 years.

Tangerine: Poems at 94 is available online (amazon) for $9.95 USD.

I just self published a book. It's about relationships. I'm very interested in Sternberg's theory on love...that the three components of consummate love are passion, intimacy, and commitment. My poems deal with these subjects. I'd love for anyone interested to check out my book! :)

Hey everyone! My name is Deep Singh and I just published my first book, Seven. It's seven pages with seven poems, each telling the same story, seven different ways! It was a lot of fun writing, I hope you all have fun reading it. Would love any feedback, as I plan to write much more.

I am excited today because I am nearing the end of another semester. I have a few more days off and then I get to register for the last two classes I need for my degree. As of Augustishsometime...I will be done with school. This means I can move back home, I can get a job, I can go see a movie or read a book or do whatever the hell I want. It won't be school comes first anymore. I can't wait. Also, I know it's silly, but, I can't wait to hang that diploma on my wall(too bad I have to wait almost 9 months before I get it)...That, and I am actively cleaning my house of junk that has accumulated. This feels so good. Spring cleaning is good for the soul. BEING ABLE TO WRITE FOR PLEASURE AGAIN and this will help me get into the swing of things.

MCubb may be just a tad bit excited today! And for good reason!!!!!

Hi guys! Here’s a poem from my newest poetry book. There’s no title so... it’s just me expressing 😊

skin like the night that felt

smooth like honey;

she was a treasure, one that was rare and one that

was imperfectly beautiful

she often forgot that part.

her eyes matched the pupils that

made lies to pull her ankles down

she was never pretty enough

never skinny enough

She

always had to be better.

tears stained the mattress,

the one that barely supported her

heaving, thick body

why couldn’t she look the way she

Wanted

she just wanted to be

Love

She

lost her home when she lost her soul.

digging for happiness she is trying to

pry the doors open for success so desperately

she wants out. why did it seem like it wouldn’t, it

Couldn’t

seem to work. nothing seemed to go the way she

wanted and all she asked for were for two things

and she never stopped

to think what was missing was inside because

she was broken and needed help but

where you’re not looking you will never

Find.

Unfolding my Paper Heart by Zoie Morgan. The author has a nice feminist theme about healing and stuff. A very good read. Fairly new and won't show up with a quick Google search, I was lucky to find this hidden gem.

Hello! My first poetry chapbook 'Sonder' is available on Amazon for only $10! It covers a variety of topics, such as mental health, social inequalities and the creative process. It is written with the intent that it will ignite something in you.

"... I wanted to use myself as an example of what not to be, to share my struggles and empathize with those who have endured the same. It is meant to be a hedonistic elaboration of what it’s like to navigate your emotions, combating psychological setbacks and continue your craft simultaneously..."

My first book - Stolen reflections: some stories are told in verse.

It is a 180-page anthology of poems (with some accompanying illustrations) dealing with different human emotions right from the thrill of success to the rancor of losing out, from the butterflies you get in your stomach when you crush smiles back in you to dealing with the loss of someone you help dear. There are poems sticking to the traditional forms of poetry, with over twenty different forms being tried out - for example: tanka, katauka, palindrome, Limerick, acrostic etc.

What inspires me:
Science and music, mostly. I'm an engineering student, so a lot of my poetry tends to either be analytical (around a theme I've observed in what I'm reading/listening to) or metaphorical/descriptive around some object or phenomenon I've observed.

Poem that's inspired me:

I don't really read poetry outside of this sub and what my friends write. Most of what I write, at least what I've historically written, is very form-based, so maybe "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" ~ Dylan Thomas?

How do I bypass writer's block:
I don't, really. Writing is a thing I do, but it's not what I do, so I write when the writing's there and I do Calc homework when it isn't.

Writing prompts:
I don't really do these as such. The concept I like most that I've been struggling the most to implement recently is "The Floor is Lava" from the perspective of an astronaut in space.

Poetry Book:

The only poetry book I own is Echoes of Light ~ Rebekah Noelle Rosamilia ( https://www.amazon.com/Echoes-Light-Rebekah-Noelle-Rosamilia/dp/1974647609/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=echoes+of+light+poetry&qid=1559061200&s=gateway&sr=8-1)

ADAM, is a collection of poetry about love, loss, loneliness and other things that start with the letter "L". There are also poems about cats in it. ADAM varies in style, tone, maturity and voice as many of the pages were ripped right from her diaries spanning the last 15 years. ADAM takes you through the mind of an actual crazy person as you try to find meaning in this meaningless world full of contradictions, suffering and a third thing because lists of three sound nice. Spoiler: you won't find the meaning in this book.

Rupi Kaur wrote the poetry book Milk and Honey

I highly recommend it. I have an inkling the poem above is heavily influenced by it. Most of her poems are accompanied by a drawing like the one above. For any sexual assault survivors out there, it's so cathartic to read \<3

u/maggiebwrites · 2 pointsr/selfpublish

Each single-page poem of Love, Sex & PTSD represents a difficult moment or a nagging thought; together, the poems tell the coming-of-age story of a woman who has experienced sexual assault and abuse. It's raw and emotional, with glimmers of hope and strength.

Originally, I wrote the poems for myself and publishing the book was a bucket-list item that I never intended to promote. But given the current climate in the US, I feel like there might be people out there who can relate and just want to be able to connect with someone else experiencing what they are.

The book is currently free (through 10/20) on Amazon Kindle and it's enrolled in Kindle Unlimited. Otherwise, it's $2.99 on Kindle or $4.99 in print.
