Oh man, I LOVE that song! Best work out song that exists.

I have these really awesome pens on my wishlist. I love them and use them exclusively for work!

Hmmm. You definitely don't want to hear my saddest work story. I work in a NICU :P The funniest work story is probably the day that a girl I work with, Jessica, was messing around in a rocking chair. She was sitting with her knees in the chair, facing the back of the chair and rocking. like this. She was also singing disney songs, but that's because she's weird lol. Mike, another nurse, was talking with us and kept telling her she was going to bust her ass. "nooo I'm not!" she kept saying.
.....until she did. The best part was that our resident 1-year-old in the unit (she was there for a whole year!!! she finally went home though), BURST OUT LAUGHING AT HER. She thought it was hilarious. Jessica had a nice bruise on her butt, and Mike was satisfied with his I told you so.

I have these and they are great for making my notes look pretty and organized. I've long been using different colored pens (black, blue, green, red) to make my notes not look so flat (how do you find anything when all your notes are in black?) but these pens are also good for drawings/diagrams.

I use a well writing black pen for standard notes, but whenever there is something important, a vocab word, something that'll be on an exam, I'll use a bright pen color. It makes my notes fun to reread, and easy to find information when I go back. If you don't want to be that fancy, you can just get a few different colored pens and decide how you'd like to designate them (blue/green/red), for vocab, !exam!, drawings, or just routinely change the color to break up the text a little.

Hope I helped a bit :) I immensely enjoy taking the time to make my notes organized and fun to read.

Working in UX for over 5 years and running a team/building their "welcome set" of tools, I have literally tried almost every major drawing pen on the market. While I love Micron and Copics, I found the Staedtler Pigment Liners exceed both in line quality and include a set in every design team member's welcome pack.

That said, we still have a need for bulk pens and while we were all previous Sharpie fans (especially the Sharpie Pen) recently Pilot Released the Razor Point II and it's by far the best mass market pen I've ever used. My entire design team here has become converts and whenever we give one to a non-designer at the company they are instantly in love with how good these are. So affordable too. Pick these up, you will not be disappointed. The Pentel Sign Pen is a much superior product to the general Sharpie Fine Point. Also, I second Elendilking's Copics alcohol markers for greys and color. All of these being Japanese products, that country knows their ink!

TL;DR: Best replacement for Sharpie Extra Fine Point:

Thanks for the compliment and question! I teach, so I strive to have neat handwriting for whiteboard work. :)

I love the Staedler triplus fineliners so far! They didn't arrive until a couple of days after my notebook, though, and I was eager to get started. :) Many of the earlier pages were done using one or more of the following:

u/twilightramblings · 14 pointsr/bujo

For me, the fineliners of any brand that are actually metal nibs do get a little scratchy but you just rotate the pen in your hand, like you do with pencils as they get blunt. You can't use too much pressure on them or use them up against rulers too hard because it cuts into the tip (and no metal rulers at all!). For me, the Papermate Flairs actually drag on the page compared to my fineliners which flow really nicely when you're on the right part of the nib. I actually like the Artline 200 Fineliner in black for my usual writing. Or the Papermate Inkjoy gelpens in the 0.7mm tip.

The Staedlers are a much finer point, I think they're 0.3mm when the Papermate Flairs are 0.7mm. So they're good for writing and small detail but you might want to stick to Flairs if you like nice bold lines for boxes and stuff. The Sharpie Fine Point that I use is 0.7mm but I know there's a Sharpie Permanent Marker that's fine point so I thought I'd link the exact one. The Artline 200 is a 0.4mm tip. So based on what you use and their tip size, the actual Staedler Fineliners might not be best for you but there might be some that are more what you like based on tip size.

A quick run down:

When I saw the post of u/ChickenSuprise's desktop, it inspired me to really deliberate what I wanted and what I needed on my desk. After internal debate and struggle, I arrived at the following (from left to right):

Light: Duh. For light. My apartment is in the middle of a complex and gets very little natural light.

Black Notebook: notebook with music paper in it for me to write down my melodies and music ideas that I get.

Check Book: for monetary matters.

White Notebook: an extra journal, when I fill up my current one, which I describe in detail below since the one on the right of the computer is the one being used.

Highlighter: for science literature that I read for grad school. I plan on eventually getting rid of this and digitizing all of my literature.

Extra Black Felt Pen: I've found my standard pen. I love the Staedtler Triplus Fineliner. Generally cheap. writes on almost anything. Makes my handwriting look good.

Red Pen: When this one runs out, I'm getting a Staedtler red pen. I need this one for grading (when I T.A. for classes).

Macbook Pro 15": My laptop. It has nearly everything on it. And thank you to u/ChickenSuprise for the inspiring wallpaper.

White Notebook: My journal. My thought book. I usually just write bullet pointed thoughts in it. During events. During trips. During the day. Song lyrics. Things that I find that will help me remember something important. I try to write at least one thought down for each day. I don't date anything. It's just a book of memories.

Same Pen. Love them. I will eventually replace all my office supplies with this set.

u/imjustafangirl · 2 pointsr/secretsanta

Here you go.

These are god tier pens. It's like the Sharpie fine-tips and Staedtler (sp?) triplus but don't leak as much, and because they're not ballpoint they don't scratch at paper. They come in a million colours, which can be helpful but maybe not that good for an engineer who likes dark things, but they come in three packs of a colour and 10packs. Check eBay as well.

If your giftee is in the US, that's why they've never tried these - they don't sell them in North America for some reason. It's like a closely guarded secret by the rest of the world hahaha.

u/Drachepanzer · 2 pointsr/architecture

You can spend a small fortune on microns and prismacolors, but whats more important is getting comfortable with the pen. Find yourself some cheaper fineliners at Hobby Lobby (or equivalent geographical hobby store) and a notebook for $5. The Staedtler and other quality brands can wait. Something like THIS but don't spend a fortune. Good luck, and happy sketching!!!

u/FeatherLeaves · 2 pointsr/drawing

Is this like anything you're looking for? I wouldn't say you are asking too much, but you may definitely need to sacrifice on quality if you're looking for price and quantity, unfortunately. My personal favorites are microns, they last forever and come in a variety of colors, but are a bit on the expensive side. Good luck! Hope you edit your post to let us know what you've decided on!

I use the pens to outline my entire pencil drawing and then water color over top. The pens are water soluble, so if I want to hide my map I can blend it with my brush srokes and go more gently where I would like that line work map to show through.

u/Nyanzapithecus · 2 pointsr/bulletjournal

I tend to go to Barnes and Noble for bullet journals. They have some pretty ones. My preferred journal is an A5 dotted type. Amazon also has a couple good brands too I’ve tried. Here’s the specific one I’m using right now.

I get my pens from Amazon. They’re like off-brand Staedlers: 60-pack with stencils or a smaller pack for trying.

Happy bullet journaling!

u/966354 · 7 pointsr/bulletjournal

Looks like it's the Pentel Fude Touch. I was able to find it by googling SES15C.

I think this is the same pen and I hope it is because I just ordered one!

Here's the amazon smile link for the same pen in violet

Edit: Changed both links to amazon smile links :)

6th year teacher here! If I was putting together a survival kit, I might include the following:

  • These grading pens, which are universally acknowledged in the education community to be bomb-ass grading pens.

  • A bottle of his favorite booze.

  • His favorite form of caffeine.

  • Coupons for housework or home-cooked meals (this would be a HUGE help, since first year teachers usually have zero energy to adult when they get home)

  • Something to help him relax (bath bombs, cozy pajama pants, and slippers were my go-tos after a stressful day)

I hope things start to look up for him. This is a rough time of year, but I swear it gets easier!

I appreciate and thank you for spending this time for my benefit.

This breakdown that you did, in conjunction with my formal critique, have exposed me to several areas of improvement that I otherwise would not have been aware of and were invisible to me prior.

You are actually hitting on the same things Uncomfortable is: namely, observational stuff. You are absolutely right that I'm making stuff up. And again, I wasn't even cognizant of this prior to. Seeing it on the page is really what I needed to connect the dots, so thanks for the images also.

Antlers: I totally understand. The left one was a function of running out or room on the page. The one on the right is totally made up and subconsciously trivialized. Point taken.

Regarding the line weights: I'm over drawing with a brush pen. While I very much working with this pen, I totally understand the feedback about it and will either drop it's use or scale it back for a bit.

I'm using a Sakura Pigma Micron 08 (0.5 mm) and a 9x12 book. the brush pen is this. I use Imgur brightness improvement on my images because I cannot figure out how to take clear pictures, even with all the lights on, the windows open, in the middle of the day. This does tend to wash out some of the construction lines, and in turn pulls the attention to the brush pen lines.

I will use a caribou in my remediation work. I can't promise any execution improvements, but I'll be trying! Thanks again.

u/barracudabones · 7 pointsr/ADHD

I also want to emphasize that this was how I got through a science undergrad degree too.

I would go to the basement of the library since it was so quiet, and I wouldn't leave until everything I had to do was done.

OP, I also want to mention that you absolutely have to figure out a method of studying that works for you. For me, I got a huge roll of colored pens for note taking. I heavily color coded my notes which not only kept me engaged in studying, it was also a really great way for me to organize the information in a way that made sense to me. (Here's the pens that worked so well for me, Stabilo Point 88 Fineliner Pens, 0.4 mm - 25-Color Rollercase Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WGWJL0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Ha1PDbSW5SR42)

Thank you for the reply. I have some questions if you don't mind.

> Staedtler pigment liners ($20)

It looks like there's fiber tipped and metal clad tipped ones. I think the metal ones would hold up better, but I really have no experience.

http://www.amazon.com/Triplus-Fineliner-Pens-Metal-Assorted/dp/B0007OEE7E/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1425349204&sr=8-3-fkmr1&keywords=Staedtler+pigment+liners+%28%2420%29

http://www.amazon.com/Staedtler-Triplus-Color-Fiber-323SB20P/dp/B000KJP7HM/ref=pd_sim_op_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=0FXXXBGH2Q80QP3C0VXY

What's wrong with spiral pads? I was thinking something I could fold over or just lay flat completely would be better especially since I'm left handed.

Thanks again for your time and help!

u/Basicallyabutt_whip · 1 pointr/bujo

I would suggest you go felt tip if it is smearing that badly for you. I use the 1.0 G2 so I really have to give it time to dry but it works for me.

I got this pack of colored pens off Amazon and they are great for the price

These!!

Happy cake day! Thanks for the contest!

u/DefStar411 · 2 pointsr/SketchDaily

:) Thank you! I ink before I paint. I'll do a really light pencil outline then use a .1 pen to hit all the lines and then pick out which lines need more weight. Like a dum dum though it took me a while to figure out I needed waterproof ink pens. These are my jam.

u/clueless_typographer · 1 pointr/Lettering

We have a cool guide for choosing a brush pen in our sidebar, so you could always start there. Personally I like to use a pencil and tombow abt brush pens, stabilos, sharpies, copics, eddings and dozens of other pens I randomly find at my local stores. For paper I usually use the cheapest A3 copy paper I can find and only invest in special marker paper when I have some extra money to spend.

u/Novalie · 2 pointsr/Coloring

My favourite is this set of 36, they are even marketed for these colouring books. I also like to compliment with these for the range of colours (50). And of course these Stabilo 68 ones are really nice colours, but I only have 20. I've been eyeing the set of 40, but let's be honest. I have too many pens!

I do own some pro-markers and they bleed through anything that is not specifically marketed as bleed-proof :(

u/notciarra · 2 pointsr/tylerthecreator

ty (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞ and for coloring i used crayola supertips, and like the outlines i used these:

u/bigBIEN · 2 pointsr/evangelion

For the grooves and small detail, I used a Pitt Artists pen, about 0.1 mm, bought it at a hobby shop, used a q-tip to remove excess around the grooves, it led to really crisp and delicious looking detail. I used something similar to this.

u/krankynico · 4 pointsr/ArtFundamentals

The pen recommended is often refered to as a "fiberpen" "liner" "fineliner". There are several different producers out there so look for example:

Here is some quick amazon links of exampels:
Artline
Staedtler
Faber-Castell
Micron

You should be able to find atleast one variant of this in your local artstore, office supply store, etc.

u/Marslettuce · 3 pointsr/ArtFundamentals

These are the ones I used for the mosquito, and these are the ones I've been using more recently.

I used the brush pen to do some of the texturing on the bee. It made shading it in way less tedious than if I'd done it with a 0.8. I like the texture it gave, too.

u/thisisappropriate · 2 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

You can get a pack of 20 for just under $20. You can also find some listings for them on Ebay.

There's also the fine liner version, which seems to be the main version on the US Amazon searches.

u/2Chimz · 54 pointsr/PenmanshipPorn

I believe it is actually the Pentel Sign Pen . I have a single one in purple and the tips bends and looks exactly like this one does

u/jenesuispastafille · 2 pointsr/bujo

I use the skinny side of a tombow brush pen for the outlines, zebra mildliners for the marker-y bits, and these for the rest:

It's a Sign Pen by Pentel. It goes on really smoothly.
