Not filling the high refresh rate... but I am using this in my kitchen on an arm

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B005BZNDHQ

But the 'speakers' are a joke. I got a super cheap small soundbar and the soundbar mounts that go into the vesa mount

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GUIEFJC

Works well enough for the kitchen, keeps it nice and clean with no wires or stand since Im edge clamping a monitor arm mount to the edge of the bar.

It has speaker out, so you go mini jack to rca to a 'sound bar'. As for higher refresh rate monitors, they might have one, I was going super cheap. and 24" at 1080p looks really good. I didnt want any bigger than 24" and tv's at that size are 720p only for the most part. 1080p comes in at like 32" when I was looking. That monitor, soundbar, monitor arm, and all stuff like power strip stuck to the back and such, cost right around $225

Does it have to be motion control? My experience with them has been that they're awful to use. I find a touchpad works a lot better. Maybe you've a different use case than I do.

I use something like this. They can control volume just fine, but you'll need to make sure HDMI-CEC passthrough is enabled on the Shield, and whatever equipment you have for audio accepts CEC. I, personally, do not like CEC because it can often get confused and start turning off the wrong thing, stuff like that. I have older components though, so maybe it works better on newer stuff?

I used one of those controllers for Keyboard/Mouse struff. But I use a Harmony remote for most stuff. I don't need the keyboard/mouse all that frequently so it just sits on the end-table. The Harmony remote controls a Flirc that's plugged into the Shield. Between the Harmony Remote and the Flirc I can use the remote to do just about anything. It's really amazing. You can even macro multi-key commands, assign them to a specific key, you name it.

Harmony has some newer remote systems as well. They look like they could do just about anything, you might want to look into that.

Lastly, Google's Android TV Remote App has a touchpad to.

Again, if you really need motion control, I'm not sure. I've not had luck with those.

The harmony smart keyboard or the mini controller? The smart keyboard is like a standard keyboard with a built in touchpad on the right side. And the mini controller is like a game pad size keyboard. I dont have the harmony hub at all, so would I be able to still use it?
The big thing for me is being able to switch easily from device to device, with either a switch or a button. Also, a smaller form factor would be nice.
The Logitech Multi-Device keyboards are nice because they have that device switching capabilities. Its the K480 and K780 bluetooth keyboards.

I use the new Sony GOLD Wireless Headset, which is made for the PS4 for sure (with 7.1 spatialization) but it works perfectly wirelessly as well with the USB dongle (included with the headset) on the Shield... and even on pc/mac, smartphone and Switch if you have a USB-to USB C adapter, which is pretty cool !

I don't know if the Shield could work with 2 Sony Gold headsets. (1 dongle 2 headsets ? But i guess 2 dongles and 2 headsets should work, after all they are 2 USB ports on the Shield. )

Concerning your question "Will the Shield transform the DTS audio into PCM?" Yes it's not a problem, the Shield "adapts" the sound with the codecs your headphones can decode. I use Kodi with 4K DTS/AAC/PCM videos without a problem. The only codec problem i've got is with 4K shows on Netflix (can't launch the show with my headphones plugged) and HBO app is not supported as well :/

Also, i bought a usb switch. I plugged the headset USB dongle on one end and connect my PS4, my Shield TV and my Switch on the other end, you have to tap on a button to switch between devices though https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Selector-Computers-Peripheral-Switcher/dp/B01N6GD9JO/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=UGREEN+USB+Switch&qid=1556409282&s=gateway&sr=8-3

So when i want to listen my shield TV with my headset, i simply press the button swapping. I don't find any seemless USB switch though.

TL:DR 2 Sony Gold Wireless Headset + One USB switch with 2 commutators should do the trick most of the time and you still can have your soundbar or any other added sound systems.

That's a mirrored setup for $350. The single 8TB setup is only $300. They only come with Green drives, but that's not an issue when all you're doing is storing media for playback. If you want to do a lot more in the future or play with running things directly on the nas by all means get the Synology setup with faster drives. But if you're just storing and playing back media over your network, go with a setup like the WD.

u/riffy13 · 2 pointsr/ShieldAndroidTV

Not what you asked but... Amazon FireTV remote is only $15 & works great. :-)

I use that & a mini keyboard for the rare times I have to type.

u/IXI_Fans · 1 pointr/ShieldAndroidTV

99% of the time USB hubs cannot handle one (let alone three) 3.5" HDDs.

Best solution: Buy/build a RAID box. You don't need NAS as the Shield/Plex is your server.
Good solution: Buy 1 big ass HDD.
OK solution: Buy a POWERED USB hub like this from Anker. You might still run into problems with disconnects and slow library boot times.

I have a few Rpi units, they are not what you are looking for. Grab a ShieldTV while on sale and have one of the most powerful units that will last a long time.

----------

Ohh and as always, BACK UP YOUR STUFF. 2 is 1, 1 is none.

Even most powered USB hubs cant handle multiple HDDs, seriously.

My receiver supports it alright, just double checked. Yeah I have this going from the Shield to the receiver.

I have this one going from the receiver to the TV.

You have options...

Samsung T5 Portable SSD - 500GB - USB 3.1 External SSD (MU-PA500B/AM), Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073GZBT36/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Z.LSDb0RQZ1K2

Also can get a huge microSD card into a USB adapter.

u/miniz98 · 1 pointr/ShieldAndroidTV

Touch controls for volume are horrible. I ended up making a side clip for the sideclick remote on amazon. Pretty cool remote but they didn’t offer it for the nvidia shield. This might help you that’s why I made it. Shield Clip for side click remote.

u/Asuppa180 · 1 pointr/ShieldAndroidTV

That's why I was looking at it. I'm currently using a 64gb micro sd card. And the speeds are pretty horrendous. Was looking at this one. Samsung 128gb 3.0 drive

The 128gb version seems to have good speeds. Light years ahead of my micro sd right now.

Edit- easier on the eyes

u/DiscoRage · 1 pointr/ShieldAndroidTV

This one. It does what I want, but now I can't see the GUI for my receiver. Thankfully it has multiple HDMI outs.

u/Wanamingo77 · 2 pointsr/ShieldAndroidTV

Take a look to this alternative too:
Is the logi k600 for tv an it can be paired up to 3 diferent devices
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C6LXYHL/ref=psdc_12879431_t2_B00ZOPVSKW

It's not backlighted but IMO it's a nice alternative.

u/stegabilly · 1 pointr/ShieldAndroidTV

I went for this as I read someone elses success with it, and can confirm it works across the room:

Yes you can:

Host by Teamviewer, you can see your shield tv on you phone, or on you pc through teamviewer.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teamviewer.host.market

or

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.dvkr.screenstream

you ucan see it in any browser, phone, pc ,...

or

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobzapp.screenstream

just to see the screen.

To control your shield tv you need to root it with magisk and install droidmote server.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.videomap.droidmoteserver

then install

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.videomap.droidmoteclient

on your phone.

Then split screen on your phone host app or stream over http together with droimote client an use your phone as a controller, voice input, text input,...

Stream over http works over 4G and host also but droidmote only works over localnetwork.

If you would want to control your nvidia shield over LTE, you could buy a https://www.amazon.de/FLIRC-Universal-Control-Receiver-Raspberry/dp/B01NBRBWS6/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=flirc&qid=1566145517&s=gateway&sr=8-1

and

https://www.amazon.de/s?k=broadlink+rm+pro&__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=1YP431CV036I6&sprefix=brodlink%2Caps%2C241&ref=nb_sb_ss_sc_3_8

Teach the broadlink the IR codes to control the nvidia shield and then control the broadlink over the LTE.

or buy another cheap android tv box to install droidmote client on that to control the nvidia over local network while you control the android tv box with host (screen and touch over LTE)

Do you really want an SSD hanging off of SHIELD?

Personally, I'd just go for either 16GB with USB3 drive like this one: [Samsung 128GB Metal] (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-128GB-METAL-MUF-128BA-AM/dp/B017DH3NOW)

Or if you have the cash, wait and buy the 500GB version at the end of the month when its available.

u/KamasutraBlackBelt · 2 pointsr/ShieldAndroidTV

Instead of an SSD with an enclosure why not just get something like the Samsung T5? It's $99 for 500GB

u/Genghis1227 · 4 pointsr/ShieldAndroidTV

Probably don't need to go third party. The 2015 remote will work with any shield device.

NVIDIA SHIELD Remote https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XO7AK9M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_TJSXBbDKAX2NE

u/xtreme777 · 3 pointsr/ShieldAndroidTV

This is the exact one I orderd in March and it is indeed the 2015 rechargable version.

https://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-930-12575-2500-000-SHIELD-Remote/dp/B00XO7AK9M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1538762652&sr=8-1&keywords=nvidia+shield+remote Note the Product number, 930-12575-2500-000, that's what is important.

u/oophe · 3 pointsr/ShieldAndroidTV

Or you could buy the Amazon Fire Remote for $15 ;) https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Remote-Amazon-Fire-Stick/dp/B00LORGAG6/

Works like a charm. No root no hassle.

u/schneidernet · 2 pointsr/ShieldAndroidTV

I use a Logitech K600 keyboard. It has custom keys for several platforms and keys to switch to three devices. Mine are LG WebOS OLED TV, a Windows 10 PC for Plex and side-loading, and my Shield Pro 2019. Has mouse keys, a touch-pad, and a D-pad. A got to have item.
