I don't care posted twice in this thread, this is separate advice from the issue at hand.

Here's tips I wish I knew before body building.

  1. Start with a strength routine. Like Stronglifts 5v5.. This site is clutch because it has apt descriptions and videos of each form. I rep 225 lbs on the bench and deadlift 445lbs x 3, and have a really good physique. I STILL do a 3-day strength routine variation, an Iso routine will show you MUCH slower gains, I promise.

  2. Learn everything you can about form. Form IS GOD. I would rather bench 225 lbs with perfect form than 325 lbs with 10% off form. I swear. What people don't understand about injuries is that they don't just happen from going too heavy. A majority of workout related injuries were always pending, say your form is off 5% and you're putting additional pressure on your knees. Fixing your form could have saved you knee trouble when you're older, but not being aware will cause it to stack up and eventually cause you injury -> permanent problems. Form is God

  3. Supplements and eating aren't things you should be super concerned about the first couple months. Sure eating healthy is always desired, but you really can't get serious until you get some muscle on you and figure out what kind of intake you should have. At first, you SHOULD BE eating a little too much. Not enough to get massively fat, but in general people under eat and don't feed their muscles at the beginning. Take this with a grain of salt if you're overweight though.

  4. Supplements aren't necessary for a while. Get yourself a good protein shake and drink it after workouts, if you really have trouble finding motivation or drive, maybe get a pre work out to help boost your energy in the gym. Other than that and some regular daily vitamins, you don't need to worry about supplementation yet. Learn more about diet and supplements over the next couple months, amass knowledge before you take or diet in any way too seriously.

PS, I recommend White Flood as a first preworkout to try.

    Hope this helped!

Are you open to some hard won wisdom?

As soon as you get to school... within the first week... make it a priority to hook up and have sex with some random girl. If you'd rate yourself a 7, hunt down a 5 and show her a good time.

Doing this will activate The Winner Effect, and set you up for cascading successes throughout the semester.

Oh, always wear a condom. Always.

u/cumaboardladies · 2 pointsr/bodybuilding

I got these and they are awesome for 35.00. They stay in your ear with the hook and they are cheap enough where I could care less about just throwing them in my bag after I am done. They were the best reviewed, cheap headphones and I am happy with them a year later.

Here is everything you need to know about Yohimbine HCL

You can get it in pills, but it tends to be a rip off when you look at actual Yohimbine content vs filler. I prefer to buy it in bulk powder (careful, very potent), and weight it with an accurate mg scale. That 3g bottle gets you about 150 servings for $7.

Dosing is all in my first link (0.2 mg / kg body weight), but as a ~200lb male I take about 20mg Yohimbine with 200mg caffeine, 30 min before fasted morning cardio. Something low impact like incline treadmill walking, otherwise your heart could explode.

Definitely legal, but has its limits due the inconvenience of needing fasted cardio along side it to work. EC is probably more effective, but ephedrine is a little harder to get these days ;)

u/immirinbro · 3 pointsr/bodybuilding

This is a great book to check out if your feeling down and want to take some steps yourself to try and understand things/feel better:

Feeling Good - David Burns

Helped me a lot. Should be a PDF copy out there you can download for free.

u/andboomgoesthedyna · 1 pointr/bodybuilding

This. I've been doing this for about 6 months now. Not only is it cheaper, but you know exactly what's going into your body. I highly recommend the 200mg of caffeine, and sticking towards the top end of his BA/CM dosages.

If you're into that "focus"/"mind muscle connection" aspect of many preworkouts, you can toss in 1-2g of ALCAR as well.

Creatine can be taken any time during the day and the impact is unchanged, but you can just make it more convenient for yourself by pre-mixing little baggies with all of your supps.

Also it's important to note this is WAY CHEAPER!

Beta Alanine, 125 Servings for $24

Citrulline Malate, 25 Servings for $16

Creatine, 200 Servings for $19

ALCAR, ~500 Servings for $18

*Caffeine, 100 Servings for $5

I'll give you two answers;

Bose Noise Canceling Wireless bluetooth over the ear headphones. Expensive yes. But you get what you pay for and the sound quality is extraordinary. Bose is a household name with above average hardware. (I own these personally)

https://www.amazon.com/Bose-QuietComfort-Wireless-Headphones-Cancelling/dp/B0756CYWWD

Second ones I like are the power beats. Not the over the ear type but they're nice and lightweight with pretty good audio. Light enough to not notice them, loud enough to drown any sound out if you're cranking that r/bodybuilding Spotify playlist.

Guys can you recommend some good wrist wraps/support? I need it only to stabilize my wrists, as I sometimes feel pain during some excercises. I would like something like https://www.amazon.com/Mueller-Wrist-Support-withloop-Elastic/dp/B001C0JL02 , but something better rated and recommended for weightlifting.

u/7_legged_spider · 2 pointsr/bodybuilding

All of my undergraduate sports medicine textbooks. If you pick up anything, get an anatomy and physiology textbook, and learn the entire muscular system.

Also, I like to read some stuff for fun and motivation. I just finished West Coast Bodybuilding Scene: The Golden Era, and am halfway through Brother Iron, Sister Steel.

u/SpoonHat · 4 pointsr/bodybuilding

Anyone with Amazon Prime, they have the Jaybird X2 Bluetooth earbuds for 45% off today. Easily the best wireless workout headphones I've ever had, been using them in the gym for about a year. Cannot recommend them enough. LINK: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B013HSW4SM/ref=gbmh_mob_s-3_3762_13755eaf?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&dealid=13755eaf&pf_rd_p=2546503762&pf_rd_s=slot-3&pf_rd_t=35801&pf_rd_i=18&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=4CYV965KH028MRH0EV3B

u/MudvayneMW · 2 pointsr/bodybuilding

I use headphones due to a ruptured eardrum from way back when, in ear stuff makes the "healed" ear drum itch.

If I did use wireless ear buds I'm sure I'd still figure out a way to get the wire between L and R to snag on something though

I like these a lot because they're cheap and if I need to replace them I can.

I've had them since April of last year and they're still working fine, figured I would have to had replaced them by now. Take them to the gym 6 times a week.

Downsides

  • Need to put them in front of a fan after working out, the foam soaks up sweat

  • Battery status doesn't do a great job of tracking the %. I just charge it once a week and am fine
u/DevilishGainz · 2 pointsr/bodybuilding

Was looking on amazon for new lifting straps and came across these LINK . You think i can use those for both regular lifting wrist straps to support my wrists instead of picking up velcro ones and use them for deadlifts straps as well or should i also grab these ones as well without the straps for days i need to bench wrist straps without deadliftingstrap . I am wondering if i need both, thinking of saving my cash and only getting the first one and using it for bench and on back days as well.

u/kooldrew · 2 pointsr/bodybuilding

The Philips Norelco Bodygroom is the single best purshase you could make if you're looking for something to shave easily and with little irration.

u/Ubiquitousity · 1 pointr/bodybuilding

On what you can do to loosen up your traps: Although I've pretty much always had tight traps, I've never enjoyed using self massagers since they've don't seem to do a very good job. However, I tried one while they were doing a showing in Costco and bought it on the spot. It can be used for your entire back, neck, and hamstrings. I highly recommend getting one like it. The one I got was a brand name and more expensive than I probably should've paid, but here's a link to one on Amazon that's much cheaper and is basically the same thing.

u/AdroitControl · 2 pointsr/bodybuilding

not op but I can't recommend these! enough. 12 hours of battery life and they charge super fast.

u/resetallthethings · 13 pointsr/bodybuilding

>The money is probably better spent on higher quality diet. You’ll build more actual muscle rather than just surrounding your tissue with water. $30/mo buys you steak instead of ground beef, and that’s about what you’d be spending on quality creatine.

What, no... just... what are you talking about?

First of all, creatine increases the volume of water INSIDE your muscle cells.

2nd of all here's 200 days worth of quality creatine for less than $20

Belt

Straps

Reebok Lite TR (flat sole powerlifting shoe)

Chucks

Adidas Powerlift 3 Oly/squat shoes, 0.6" heel

You can get the 2's and the originals for cheaper if you look around on the internet a little bit more.

Adidas "Adipower" Oly shoes, 0.75" heel

I've heard most people get these for closer to 80-90 dollars, but I don't know where. Wei Rui is also a good brand for heeled Oly/squat shoes and come it a fair bit cheaper, but are not available on Amazon.

As for wraps and sleeves, I've no experience with them so I can't help much.

u/GainTarts · 4 pointsr/bodybuilding

I got this book a ways back [The Bodybuilder's Nutrition Book] (https://www.amazon.com/Bodybuilders-Nutrition-Book-Franco-Columbu/dp/0809254573) by Franco Columbu

Though probably a lot of it is outdated I like the golden era thought process and his approach.

He recommended a lot of fruit prior to workouts and I've been wanting to try it for a while but don't really like eating fruit.
Past two weeks I've been blending 16oz of assorted fruit with creatine an hour or so before workouts.

Made it to the gym 12/14 days and just feel better when I'm done training. Also fiber. Will continue for a few more months and report back.

I like "Total Recall", which is Arnold's autobiography. "Brother Iron, Sister Steel" by Dave Draper is interesting. His writing style has some fluff, but there are some good nuggets. I don't remember the title, but the photographer Dick Tyler wrote a book about the west coast golden age of bodybuilding. I had it a while back but honestly can't remember if it was good or bad.

EDIT: Here it is: https://www.amazon.com/West-Coast-Bodybuilding-Scene-Tyler-ebook/dp/B006RBEFR0/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=dick+tyler&qid=1569103547&sr=8-1

u/Captain_Xorro · 1 pointr/bodybuilding

I got these in the mail today. Used them for my workout earlier, they worked great and lasted about 4 hours of constant playback. Not sure if that's out of your price range, though.

u/dyingbicep · 1 pointr/bodybuilding

Ruined my first pair of Jaybirds from sweating too much on them. I don't even recall what model it was but it was one of their first "water proof" ones

This is what I use now.

https://www.amazon.com/MEE-audio-Bluetooth-Headphones-Microphone/dp/B008OUL1OC

First pair lasted probably 1.5 years before the band broke, and I bear the shit out of them

Only con to them is you have to make sure to air them out after using them. They do sell replacement ear pieces

u/the_corruption · 1 pointr/bodybuilding

I'm going to drop this rice cooker in for ~$100 cheaper and it will likely accomplish all of your needs (shit I'm using a rice cooker that looks to be 30 years old and it works just fine). No need to spend that much money on something that cooks rice...

Edit: This is my baby. Works like a charm. http://i.imgur.com/7RS9uEu.jpg

I have this one since about 3 years. Using it pretty much every day and can't complain.

*edit - In regards to powdered DMAA.

If you don't have a good scale that can go to .001 grams, get one. [This is one I use for DMAA.] (https://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-GEMINI-20-Portable-MilliGram/dp/B0012TDNAM) It's not the best, but it works well enough.

I apologize if that's a mobile link, I'm currently on my phone.

Inzer or Schiek, but using them often will wear out the velcro. Schiek makes these alternative wrist wraps (similar to their straps, minus the actual strap) that would last longer if you use them on a daily basis (http://www.amazon.com/Schiek-Sports-Ultimate-Wrist-Supports/dp/B001183UJ8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408041230&sr=8-2&keywords=schiek+wrist+wraps).
