> Ah, yes, the prototype hardware that was famous for making people sick. Show me a new VR game that supports K&M over motion controls or controller.
I'm kind of astounded that you're asking me to provide sources since you haven't backed up your own. I'll provide you with a link when you provide me with a citation that CIG "specifically stated it was being designed with VR and motion controls in mind."
>Just because there are thousands of outdated games from a previous generation doesn't mean they're good, or feasible with current hardware.
There's nothing that has fundamentally changed between now and then, and many of those games which are played solely with a mouse and keyboard in VR were highly regarded. There's nothing that stops it from being a feasible control scheme. Them being from "a previous generation" is irrelevant.
>I love how you keep bringing up price. They've confirmed support of HOTAS which can run into the $300-500 range, but the very thing we're discussing, the VR HMDs run $600-800. They've confirmed support for that, why cut it off there? It's illogical in the highest degree. So, yes. I think it's a downright certainty that CIG will support an $800 peripheral (VR HMD) over a $30 peripheral (Xbox 360 controller.)
I'm bringing up the price for a specific reason. You're saying that CIG are going to implement support for an $800 peripheral because you think that a $30 one, or a peripheral that players already own and is already implemented into the game, won't work properly in VR. The fact that CIG are supporting HOTAS control is neither here nor there. You can get a $10,000 HOTAS if you want, you can get a £100 one instead. But it wasn't implemented because you can't use a mouse and keyboard or a gamepad if you wish to. Support for joysticks requires a fraction of the development time that implementing motion controllers does.
>All your 'sources' for VR games with mouse and keyboard are at least 2 years old. That would be like me showing video of a PS3 controller and saying SC should support that.
You'll find that there are Joysticks and throttles which are designed and sold more than a decade ago which work in SC without any additional programming on the part of the devs. In fact my own X55 was made in 2014. You'll find that a PS3 controller works fine as well, in fact here's a video of it in use. This is wholly different because gamepads and flight-sim peripherals have protocols which are largely the same. Much like how headtracking for VR doesn't differ massively from the support for the headtracking support the game already has. But support for motion controls, which you are still unable to cite any mention of by CIG, will require a complete rework of the game.
Far from being contrarian, I simply asked you to tell me where CIG said they would have support for motion control. I'm not looking for an inference based on your opinion, I'm not looking for a comparison to similarly priced peripherals, I'm not looking for a debate about the amount of work it would require to implement. You said that "they specifically stated it was being designed with VR and motion controls in mind.". Show me.
I picked up this monitor late last year and it's been amazing. I no longer need 2 monitors on the desk.

I have a 4k TV, but prefer gaming on the 3440x1440p ultra wide, it just feels nice thanks to the wide view.
I bought it before upgrading my PC thinking I'd rather have the monitor in place and then the hardware to support it later rather than buying new hardware and being stuck with a smaller monitor at 1080p.
It's native 100hz and can overclock to 120hz plus works great with gsync (nvidia). It completely changed how games play, especially FPS games.
I had posted an iteration of this the other day but believe I have perfected my mobile package that will allow me to manage my fleet, spawn ships for my clan, and fulfill auxiliary support positions all from my phone, virtually anywhere.
This all works via Moonlight & Parsec streaming from my home network to my phone and has accomplished low latency play even over LTE mobile connections.

These two are great, and the 2nd one is basically the bible for A2A combat. A lot of the maneuvers will not apply to zero-g space fighters, but the lessons you learn about firepower, awareness, and strategy will hold up for the next 500 years.

That one is for 7-8.5" tablets. there is a 9-10.5" version as well.
Here are my PC specs:
> ###My SYSTEM SPECS
>
> - CPU: i5-3570k overclocked to 3.8GHz
> - RAM: 24 GB DDR3
> - GRAPHICS: R9 390 with 8 GB memory
> - 4k monitor but generally play Star Citizen at 2560x1440 (but take screenshots at 4k-6k)
> - MB: P8Z77-V LK
> - OS: Windows 10 on its own SSD
> - Star Citizen is on a second SSD
>
> The CPU and MB are 5 years old now.
>
> I got the R9 390 about 2 years ago. Before that, I was playing Star Citizen fine on an HD7870. I'm not a framerate junky though.
As for the monitor, I'm currently using:
ViewSonic XG2700-4K 27" 60Hz IPS 4K UHD 2160p FreeSync Gaming Monitor
I had very specific needs. My gaming computer is first and foremost my work computer. And, by day, I'm a graphic/web designer. I needed a reliable, color accurate monitor... so I leaned towards IPS displays even though TN panels generally have faster response times for gaming. I also currently use that AMD R9 390 so I wanted to try to get a monitor that could take advantage of FreeSync. And then I don't have a big budget to throw at high end computer peripherals, so budget was very much a factor. I researched and waited for about two years before finally buying this monitor.
Does that help? Let me know if you have more questions about it.
You might want to try the Lexip Pro 3d while you're at it. Out of production, but it's not overly hard to obtain still.
I'm technically a HOSAS user, but I dabbled a bit with this mouse. My big complaint is that the buttons aren't really in a comfortable place. Other than that, it's a neat product.
Still though, thanks for the great link! I think I'll back this.

Amazon Prime Day is coming soon. I can bet this will be on a good sale. This thing goes on sale a lot. I only use it for SC and it worked pretty well, even when FOIP was buggy. So, should work really well with the new version.
I'd recommend using KB/mouse to be more effective. For immersion, joysticks are awesome but they cannot compete with manual gimbal aim. The gamepad is going to give you the worst experience in current implementation IMO.
I recently read a really great book on dog fighting. It deals with atmospheric flight, but there is a lot of great info in it.
http://www.amazon.com/Fighter-Combat-Maneuvering-Robert-Shaw/dp/0870210599/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427749842&sr=8-1&keywords=robert+l+shaw+combat
In the States you can get it on Amazon here or here. I'm not sure what's available in Europe, but maybe Amazon will ship to you.
Edit: They're physical copies, sure, but it's better (for CR, who deserves his cut) than torrenting.
I was hoping they'd have these config controls as well. I'd like to be able to keep the mouse on head tracking as in the hangar and pilot the ship with either the keyboard of one of those game pad things. Maybe even a 3d mouse like this.
they are replicas of real flight sticks, not sci-fi glowy joysticks.
and they are sturdy enough you could probably beat someone over the head with it and go right back to flying.
as for price they are in the middle ground.
$61 for flightstick
$78 for the combatstick
$98 for the fighterstick
it's pretty much the best quality you can get without spending multiple hundreds on a warthog or black mamba
No problem! I've been really happy with the Pccooler fans. I saw Bitwit's review of them back in the spring and knew I was going to use them. Here's the rgb strips I bought:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07QP8ZVYD?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
They are not argb if that matters to you. In my case I needed non argb because my Mobo argb ports were all taken. They are really nice, and super bright if you crank em.

The 5 packs of pccooler moonlights come with a hub/controller that can connect up to 7 or 8 fans. So I have 2 pccooler controllers in the back of the case with the 9 fans connected to them (RGB and power via splitters). That controller connects to a sata power connector and you can connect the controller to your argb on the mobo. I don't have that piece connected. I am actually controlling the fan speeds and color via the controller/remote and it works just fine but you can do mobo control if you want. They came with everything you need to connect them whichever way you decide to do it.
Excellent feedback. I am thinking about grabbing the Combatstick for ~$80
But a close friend of mine suggested the Thrustmaster T-Flight for a slightly higher price. ~$95
Which one would you guys go for?
I got an X56 to replace my old X52 Pro but was deeply underwhelmed by it and was really happy to return it for a refund when it turned out to have a fault with the throttle not going beyond 80%
Ended up going for this - the Thrustamaster T.1600M FCS instead
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmaster-T-16000M-FCS-Hotas-PC/dp/B01H6KXGDY
which has now been working really nicely in ED and SC for a year now
Yeah, no Amazon Prime either.
The reviews are pretty promising though: http://www.amazon.com/Volair-Sim-Universal-Simulation-Cockpit/dp/B00AGYXUKW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409486981&sr=8-1&keywords=Volair+Sim
Logitech 310. Bought it back in 2013 for about $30. Haha. No need for an expensive webcam at least from what I've experienced so far. Though I'm sure the better ones can keep the expressions more consistent.
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-960-000585-HD-Webcam-C310/dp/B003LVZO8S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539236756&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+310+webcam
That kind of depends on if Roccat Power Grid runs on Amazon Kindle Fires. They are $50 for a 7" tablet, and my wife's runs the games she plays on it great. Other than that I haven't really found anything as of yet.
"Imagine a space flight sim where you can control your craft with perfect analog precision..." That RAT's strafing axis is nice, but, I don't think I will go for it because the one I'm using right now has enough to strafe in any direction. The mouse that I linked to has 4 axis on it and it actually works real well, plus, it's out now.

I have a SpaceNavigator but as of yet have not been able to get it working in AC. To be honest, the drivers for it are pretty bad.
I have a cdrom buried somewhere in a box of old software, but other than eBay or similar I don't know how to obtain it currently.
Amazon has it for an okay price.

The 100$ budget makes this one hard.
here are your options
CH pro Combatstick which is based on the old a10 joystick
other then that you can ebay for a Saitek X45 or X52
VKB and virpil are not going to be close to that price, unless you stop caring about bottons then you can get the vkb gladiator with few button and no replaceable grip . The new Virpil Constellation is going to be most likely more then 100 for just grip and the new low cost base is 200$.
An Alienware AW3418DW. I'm a big fan, although SC has some bad UI issues with 21:9 resolutions right now.
