DSLR I keep reading seems to be the way to go, provided I can learn a fair bit about them as I am no camera expert. I'm not sure how much you know about camera gear, but I've been eyeing this deal on Amazon, (Canon EOS Rebel T6 DSLR + Lenses, Memory & Extras for 499.99), would this be comparable, or just a good buy in general? Thank you!

I have, but the policy hasn't ever been different. It's just published now, rather than being internal only.

I understand that this is a frustrating policy to some. I'd say that judging a policy by its guidelines, rather than its implementation, is kind of silly. I remember a book that I got in 2nd grade: "Donkeys can't sleep in Bathtubs": https://www.amazon.com/Donkeys-Sleep-Bathtubs-Other-Crazy/dp/0893752649

It listed hundreds of laws that were technically on the books for all kinds of silly reasons, but not enforced. I think the YouTube Advertiser Friendly guidelines are most often like that. There are certainly some topics that are hard to make content about, but the boogeyman of "You Can't Swear On YouTube!" Is a completely false narrative based on paranoia, not on reality.

Anyway, I look forward to more YouTube competition! Competition helps keep us on our toes. But I think that thinking of these policies as new is misleading; they've always been there, they've always had a small effect (<1% of videos effected), and they will always limit some types of content from being on the platform.

Hey there! I don't know much at all about hand-helds, I can only reccommend what I know and use.

I most recently use the Logitech C920 for my videos. I'm assuming that if you're filming reviews in front of your computer, that portability is not an issue?

And because of the terrible webcam audio that seems to plague all webcams, the Blue Snowball is a terrific, budget starter mic to give you some great sound at a terrific price.

Both are USB, the Snowball is plug and play, but the camera comes with nifty mini recording package that you can install and start using right away to shoot video.

Perhaps one or two of these? Runtime and weight is excellent, but you'd probably be much better off with a higher power light and a softbox. Depends on how much room you have I suppose.

I'm watching it on my desktop via Google Chrome. I ran a speed test to make sure my internet wasn't the issue and it was fine 200mbp/s UP and down. My monitor is HDCP compatible im pretty sure(atleast from the searching i have done). Its an HP Omen.

EDIT: So I tried loading them up in FireFox and it was the same way. Tried Microsoft Edge and it played them in HD. So it must just not be compatible with Chrome and Firefox. Thats kinda frustrating.

EDIT 2: I unplugged my Oculus headset and i can now suddenly watch them in HD via Chrome.

Well right now I'm doing Console games, I use the El Gato Capture HD (Which is awesome) and use the XO4 Headphones from Turtle beach. Just bought this mic http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QJREXM/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 so now I no longer have to use a shitty webcam mic.

I also made a little animation for my intro, but I'm thinking I have to change the channel art a bit.

I'm curious about keywording, I hear it's supah important, and want to be able to reach the largest amount of people possible with it.

You can use a cheap microphone arm / desk clamp to attach your webcam, or pick up some cheap PVC pipe at your local hardware store and build your own stand. Loads of DIY videos and info online using PVC for overhead camera rigs.

Those are the cheapest options I’m aware of. Obviously, there are more expensive options, but both of those are inexpensive and easy.

Here is a mic arm / desk clamp:

It's not difficult to produce videos yourself. If you can make it look decent, for YouTube, content is most important.

If you have $200, you can get a basic setup.

Just my suggestions, there are many other choices, obviously:

(At least 2 lights)

The camcorder has a flip out screen so you can see yourself..I believe the HDMI connection will also allow you to display what's being recorded on a monitor or TV with HDMI inputs.

Yeah, I just got one of these, yet to try it out, but it feels to be built fairly well.

A USB port is generally USB 3 if it is blue (in this photo, the left port is USB 2, the right USB 3).

As for capture cards, Elgato is the big brand, but mostly it doesn't make much difference. Just be sure to read what resolutions and refresh rates it can capture at.

I avoid the whole fuss about having to hook up a computer though and use a standalone HDMI capture box instead, which can also accept component. It's this AverMedia one, which works nicely, but is limited to a maximum recording resolution of 1080p30 or 720p60, which may not be to your needs. I also bought it a few years back, so the hardware is nothing new and the price hasn't even come down - it's actually gone up a little.

Anyway, I would say to consider the standalone capture boxes. The upside to them is you don't need to hook up a computer, and you won't have any compatibility or performance issues, but the downside is you generally can't livestream and you will require an external hard drive.

That's a bit too expensive for me right now. Is this one any good do you think? https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B017SQ8MN0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_EZrjDb0NCVMJF

u/CoAff · 1 pointr/youtube

Oh, that's quality one, lol. I got one of those el cheapo 2.5" enclosures for doing an OS swap when upgrading the old laptop to an SSD. I also have a Mediasonic Probox waiting for me to set up.

Use a capture device for capturing something like a game console. I use a StarTech capture device with my Wii U.

For PC, I use Open Broadcaster. It can be used for recording to your computer and for live streaming.

Buy a green screen like this one about $60 and a cheap webcam for $50 and for lighting $60

This recording is included in the incredibly wonderful Kerouac collection by Rhino, which, if you're a Kerouac fan, you owe it to yourself to get. After hearing his voice read the text, it forever changed the way I "heard" the writing in my head as I read Kerouac. And now, (one of) my favorite Kerouac quotes from my sullen teen years:
>"no more
dissipation, it's time for me to quietly watch the world and even enjoy it,
first in woods like these, then just calmly walk and talk among people of
the world, no booze, no drugs, no binges, no bouts with beatniks and drunks
and junkies and everybody, no more I ask myself the question O why is God
torturing me, that's it, be a loner, travel, talk to waiters only, in fact,
in Milan, Paris, just talk to waiters, walk around, no more self-imposed
agony... it's time to think and watch and keep concentrated on the fact that
after all this whole surface of the world as we know it now will be covered
with the silt of a billion years in time.. . Yay, for this, more aloneness"
