I recommend, you both hang out and drink together. Something that works for your friendship that wouldn't seem awkward, maybe a drinking game. Don't get plastered though.

Then address it directly.

The drinking gives you an excuse in which you can salvage the friendship possibly.

Alternatively, this was just a cool trick that I did with my lady (though it was never under a pretense of friendship).

Buy a laser

And a Fog machine

Tell him you have something cool to show him.
Take him to your bedroom and tell him to lay on your bed.
Close the door and make it completely dark in the bedroom.
Set up the laser with circle on the bed so that he's in the center.
Spray the fog machine through the laser and join him in the center...in your bed.
You'll have to be close...enjoy a moment with him...and then kiss him.
