It's probably just shitty cables. The expensive, official component cables are guaranteed to work and look great, but the cheap knock-off ones are very hit-or-miss.

As for the ejecting DVD drive, it's a very common issue with Thomson, Samsung and Hitachi drives. It just needs a new belt. Very easy fix. You could also try just cleaning the belt, but if that doesn't work, it'll need to be replaced. Don't smack on the console though.
