Have you considered an x-pen with a top as an alternative to baby gates? I know friends whose pups were climbers who used covered x-pens with success (I don’t however have personal experience with an x-pen with a top).
Something like this one with a canvas top or a wire top like this one . With the canvas top you’d want to make sure your pup won’t chew on the straps or canvas.
