Buy military-style locking pinbacks from Amazon or your eTailer of choice much gentler on the pin post and no need for tool to remove.

Its more so that they dont come off easily, rather than being tight. To release them, you have to push the base down and lift the top of the back up. They still can break but it is a much more secure way to have pins on your hat.
