Okay, so I'm actually planning on doing a Crusader myself next year and I can go into some of what I plan on using. Also keep in mind that while I have done armor before, I am by no means an expert on it, I just know what my preferences are and how I plan on tackling some of the hurdles.
So lets tackle the elephant first, The Armor:
"Armored by faith, driven by duty, bound to kill the enemies of the Zakarum."
Okay, onto a bit easier subject, The Cloth and Leather:
"My faith is rewarded."
My plan for my eternal Phalanx, and this can be debated, The Shield:
"The crusade marches on!"
Last but not least, everyone favorite, The Weapon:
"Do not hesitate to strike down your enemies. Death is their salvation from evil."
That's really all I got. Only other thing I could suggest is to take your time and start early. Some of my friends, and even me sometimes, don't start early and will run around the week before/week of freaking out because we're not done, so don't be like us. Be smart. Oh, speaking of being smart, make sure you use PPE. If you don't know if you need it ask about it. You don't want to be working with something like resin without a mask and get breathing issues in 15 years because you didn't protect yourself. And what ever you do, don't forget:
"Kneel before Zakarum!"
OMG. You are amazing, my friend. Happy cake day! I love love love this contest idea!! And it gives me motivation to actually finish a drawing!! Thank you for this!!
You can find books and videos on working with wire to make fancy links or simple jump rings to make a variety of different kinds of chains. There are also books on wire wrapping to make settings for stones and bands for rings, etc.
I don't have my jewelry books handy at the moment, but I recall this one being a good book for beginners - and you can get a used copy on Amazon right now for around three bucks plus shipping. This book is a really good one on chain making. It's apparently out of print but still available new through Amazon affiliates for less than half its original price. I don't own this book, but it looks like it has a few different interesting techniques for wire working.
I'd HIGHLY recommend practicing with plated or filled/layered wires to begin, because of the expense. I picked up a roll of bare aluminum wire at Home Depot really cheaply a few years ago, to try new techniques. If I remember correctly it was used for electrical fences, which is why it was uninsulated. I've also used heavy copper wire to make stuff, after stripping off the insulation.
When you buy wire, the smaller the gauge number the fatter the wire. Really thin wire is often too flimsy for jewelry - unless you're doing something special, and really heavy wire is usually too clunky - though if it's fat enough you can file and hammer it to get some interesting textures.
Ultimately it would be really good to learn to solder with a torch, to close up all of the links in your chains and join pieces together, etc., but leaving links unsoldered when you're first starting out is usually OK, as long as they don't snag on stuff.
Good luck.
Peaches N Creme isn't that popular. I think Wal Mart carries it, but AC Moore seems to be ridding themselves of their stock. I've never done knitpicks - I'd love to, but I know if I start I'm going to get hooked and we'll be broke in no time. It's easier to practice self control when you're shopping in person.
I haven't been to /r/crossstitch in ages and ages - and I just realized it's because I'm not subscribed on this account :o I will have to remedy that posthaste.
Knitting took a few tries to click, but using the knitting help videos for continental method was what did it for me. And once I got the purl/knit stitches down, the rest of it isn't as complex. I'm definitely still learning, though - I wouldn't be comfortable sending a knitted gift to my giftee at this point.
Re: buttons - thanks! I used magnetic closures, like these. I really really really wanted it to look okay like that but it just didn't, so I did a basic magic circle with I want to say 12 hdc? Don't recall exactly, I just eyeballed it.
Crafting subs are the best! Small, tight communities that are super friendly and as addicted to crafting as I am!
Not sure if you’re still going to be at pax but FYI the Link one is not a official Pinny Arcade pin so i doubt you’ll be able to trade it in future.
That being said, if you like the pin designs like I do, it’s not a bad idea to get them because you like them. Over the 4 year I’ve been to pax I’ve only bought less than 20 pins, and traded one yesterday for a Kemper one I really like. I think it’s important that I like the pins, rather than collecting them for some other arbitrary value.
If and when you get into enamel pins (in or out of PAX), I suggest you use these pin locking backs as they are more secure than stock pin backs. I bought some at PAX but they are so pricey. Needed to replace some pin backs though so I got them.
GL; HF!
I try to keep my bag as streamlined as possible but I like to be prepared.
Here are the things I always bring:
-cheap plastic poncho everyday / higher quality rain jacket when rain is expected
-refillable plastic water bottle (I carry a 12 oz nalgene) with bottle of mio flavoring
-small bottle of advil and another with dramamine ( I get motion sick easily)
- Locking pin backs for keeping trading pins secure.
-battery pack and phone charging cable
-snacks (I like to bring a bagel for a filling mid morning snack)
-small pack of baby wipes/hand wipes because I always end up eating something sticky.
** inflatable lightweight seat cushion for waiting on parades, fireworks, etc. (game changer!**)

**If you get just one thing for the trip, I HIGHLY recommend the inflatable seat cushion if you intend to wait around for parades, fireworks, see any shows, etc. You'd be surprised after walking around for hours how much of a difference having a comfortable surface to sit on makes. It's by far my favorite park item.

Have a great trip!
I've done both. Here's what I use for chains:
You're better off getting all these things online. Cheaper and more variety. The links are only examples. Make sure you get what you want!
I learned how to do this via how-to videos on YouTube so have a look there. Good luck!
Edit: Saturday morning grammar
Follow-up for those interested.
I orders two models from Amazon: model 1 and model 2. I finally got a chance to try them on with earrings today. I was quickly obvious that the spring on model 2 was too strong and would hurt my lobe after a while. On the other hand, model 1 was just perfect and I think I could wear it all day long without a problem.
In both cases, they are staying in place no matter what. In the name of science, I even tried jumping and dancing to see if they would come off and they didn't go anywhere. At the same time, they would definitely come off if you pulled on them directly, which gives me some sense of security compared to regular earrings that are really attached to your ear.
Model 2 has just a tiny ring at the bottom through which to thread the hook. Model 1 has some sort of little cone filled with rubber, very similar to the ones that are typically used on the back of the lobe to lock the earring in place. This means you don't even need these stoppers at all and you might even be able to cut some of the hook to a shorter length.
Esthetically, it is fairly clear that the earring sits somewhat lower than intended. This technique probably doesn't work well with all styles. I think it works better with long dangling earrings. Smaller round-shaped ones that normally cover only the lobe would certainly look weird (I haven't tried). There are some other models where the attachment is placed higher up on the converter instead of at the bottom, which might help. A hairstyle that covers the ear entirely could also work.
Are gift cards allowed? I'd really like a gift card towards this bead reamer if possible. It's highest priority for the jewelry making ideas in my head!
If gift cards are not ok, then I'd really like this set of earring hooks, I know they are technically an add-on item, but they are also available through third party vendors for around the same price.
For you, I think you should add this hair comb I've been drooling ove rit for a while, and I think it's spectacular.
Doodlebug!
I bought these which work super well! Easy to take on and off without using a tool but also pretty darn secure.
The best place would be your local piercing/tattoo parlor. They most likely will have them in stock and may be able to help you swap them if your not quite healed yet. They also could possibly order them for you if they didn't have them.
Or you can order through Amazon- Clear Plastic Ear Piercing Retainers - 6 Pairs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0092TZ14K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_NsPADbYMQAF6B
A craft store may have them as well as they are sometimes sold as a craft item.
Holy smokes, Batman! - it's on the more expensive side of you limit, butttt relevant, so I had to put it on there :P
This is a far less expensive addon that I would love also :)
Thanks for the contest!
P.S. I NEED to see the finished costume when you put it all together...this is not a want...but a yes, you need pictures!!!
If you like the earrings, or if you find any others you like sometime give these a try? A friend of mine uses and loves them.
Honestly, it depends on how many repeats you have per row. I use small markers like this when I'm knitting lace and they don't get in my way at all. Jump rings also work well, as long as you make sure to get a size big enough to fit your needles.
Once you get used to marking your work, you won't even notice them (except for when you need to), and it will be immediately obvious when one of your repeats is off.
HAPPY CAKEDAY <3
That's so cool. People like you are so...nice. How do you do it??
(This has 4/4 letters) The letters are in order! C-A-K-E...wooo for clay!
(This has 3/4 letters) Or, if you wanted to see something else (cheaper), here's another C-A-E
Thanks for the suggestion! I looked and ended up getting these! I hope they work out =]
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01DU8U63Y These are pretty good so far- a little hard to get off, but I haven't lost a pin yet.
There's also the kind that use a small allen key- https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00BR9W8JO they sell them at the parks, too- They're handy if you don't have strong hands tho- the other kind needs a pretty strong grip to get off. (I always end up losing the little key tho.)
316L is my goto but 316 is excellent as well and less springy. I get mine from Amazon or Fasttech.
You can also try a welding supply store if you have one local.
EMTS are awesome!! :)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0098UVTSK/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8
Hide and seek! I found you! This is less than $3 and has free shipping.
Awesome contest!
You can also check into Earring Converters; they usually come in a kit of several. This will convert most standard pierced earrings into the clip-on type. http://www.amazon.com/Clip-Earring-Converter-Pair-Turn/dp/B007X5M55I
Hope that helps to expand your options!
OP... I've been using this 26ga 316L wire purchased on Amazon and it works very well.
I actually prefer to use it in Power Mode, but the vape quality is fantastic.
Good point, but some type of keychain quick release would be an easy fix.
Locking Pin Backs!
I know I offered to DM the link but so many people asked for it, so I'll just post it here! Enjoy!
This is what I've been using. Works super well and is 316L.
I had two extra old nvidia quadro cards from a 6yr old pc at work that I took apart. http://imgur.com/a/AjMo3
I also bought a 100 pack of surgical steel earring hooks from amazon for dirt cheap a while back. Best purchase ever, because anything cool you find that you can drill a hole in can become earrings.
I bought these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J5DT4LO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LYS7N9J/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Love both of them. I lean ever so slightly towards the former, as they are freakin' LOCKED ON with an allen screw. The latter are real easy to put on, and are so secure I have a little difficulty getting them off sometimes. Not sure of the mechanism of the latter.
Get some post convertors these and any studs you think she might like :)
The locking pin backs can be a bit of a hassle and sometimes they strip. I have found these to work the best for me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K5354SO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I ordered mine from an eBay seller that has since sold out. origin Vape has the UD branded wire in stock. They are a reputable site but there are probably better deals out there. Many people use the Beadalon brand sold at craft stores.
It can take a few weeks to fully heal but there are clear plugs that you can insert into the hole while you are not wearing them. Most have a center hole so you can wear the plugs with the piercing for easy removal until healed
Also! Locking pin backs have saved my collection!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01DU8U63Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1479481259&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=locking+pin+backs&dpPl=1&dpID=51fCPvmdrsL&ref=plSrch
(Maybe that link will work??)
I decided to find a whole outfit.

What did the guy say when he was recommended a new alcohol? Ill give it a shot.
This contest is so fun. I love this style of clothing so it was fun to create a whole outfit.
I started making brooches kind of like these recently! Not the beaded ones, more like a blend between the other two.
I'm in no way an expert, but I just use cheapo acrylic-blend felt, normal embroidery floss, and pin backs . I embroider on one piece of felt, then cut another the same size that I sew the pin back to, and then stitch those together. There are probably much better ways to do it, but this has been pretty okay for getting started and messing around.
Here's a bad picture of a pin made with this method.
Edit: more pins.
Bracelet
Garfield loves lasagna! but no one makes a better one then I do
Its more so that they dont come off easily, rather than being tight. To release them, you have to push the base down and lift the top of the back up. They still can break but it is a much more secure way to have pins on your hat.
EDIT:
Totally didn't look at the link, never tried those before. I thought they were the locking style as seen here:
https://www.amazon.com/Pin-Backs-Great-Keeping-Required/dp/B00S040BSE/ref=pd_sim_193_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=315536%2Bs8GL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL200_SR160%2C200_&refRID=HR3QRGD1VTEBQ0V9VM7N
If you really want them to stay I’d definitely recommend these. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYS7N9J?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf I’ve lost a few pins myself with the butterfly backs, these won’t come off unless you want them too
Are you talking about pins with the rubber/butterfly backs or the pin-back buttons?
I haven't tried them yet, but I have very seriously considered some of these locking clutches for some of my pins: https://www.amazon.com/SUBANG-Count-Locking-Keepers-Storage/dp/B01LYS7N9J/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=screw+on+pin+back&qid=1571164063&sr=8-1
Since I've not gotten any, I usually just take them off before I mosh and put them in one of the chest pockets.
The pin-back buttons I soldered on after I lost an Anthrax pin, and it has worked great! I've not lost another one since I did that.
I want it!
Thank you for the contest!
hey guys, I recently picked up some 22gauge 316L stainless steel wire and it's had a funky taste to it since ive started vaping it. At first I thought it was a burnt wick but the cotton wasnt singed at all and Ive been using temp control with it. Ive tried 2 different builds and stainless steel just tastes different than kanthal and nichrome to me.
[heres the wire i bought] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001R8LLW0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00)
, im not sure if this is meant for vaping but can someone help me out? ive only been vaping it for about a day so maybe it needs to break in?
Like these type of badges? kind of visible

They make locking backs for them. https://www.amazon.com/SUBANG-Count-Locking-Keepers-Storage/dp/B01LYS7N9J/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1536963454&sr=8-3&keywords=locking+pin+backs

I would recommend getting some locking clasps if you plan on putting this on something that will be worn or used often. You can get a good bundle pack from Amazon for about $8
Jump ring - your basic ring.
Split ring - basically a mini key ring, and will provide a more secure hold for your key. Both can be found in any craft store, in the jewelry/beading section.
The ones sold at the parks are terrible and I'll corroborate what everyone else has been saying.
I've been using these and I absolutely love them. No key involved and very convenient
Amazon, bb! It was a 10 piece set. Lots of cute ones in there. I have posted a couple in the r/gothstyle thread too because I’m a lil witch bitch 🖤

I didn't even know these existed. I should invest in them so that I don't go looking for my pins in the middle of a party
> Maybe the backings have been improved?
They haven't.
I use something like this for "displaying around the parks": https://www.amazon.com/Quality-Locking-Favorite-Collectibles-Trading/dp/B017K4AFF8/
It's called a "lobster clasp". To find a large heavy duty one for your needs you may to look for something like a pet leash. This may work

Additionally, you could convert any post earring to a clip-on with a product like this.
Don't buy this (I would never put something like that in my ears). http://www.amazon.com/Clear-Plastic-Ear-Piercing-Retainers/dp/B0092TZ14K But the concept is good for earrings.
I have two of these lobster claw clasps on my keychain, for my flash drive and my Victorinox Minichamp, so they can detach easily.
I got these and they work well!

I don't know about op, but I picked up some plain 22g 316l beadlon wire from amazon for about 10 bucks at 32ft. Beadalon Round Wire 316L Stainless Steel 22 Gauge, 10-Meter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001R8LLW0/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_6gdsub0YQ1X67
My first time attempting to post a link, but you could slap these dollhouse tongs on one of these keychains and DIY that shiz.
Buy military-style locking pinbacks from Amazon or your eTailer of choice much gentler on the pin post and no need for tool to remove.
Edit: Linky link- https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00S040BSE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1464538902&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=50+pin+backs+great+for+keeping+your+pins+safe+no+tools+required
Edit II: I bought that exact product and have four pins on my manly tactical sling bag.
Silver Jump Rings!

Thanks for the contest!
Amazon. It came in a variety pack of 10 and I wear this one daily. :)
ETA: I've worn it all summer in the ocean, at the pool, and at the gym. It still looks brand new.
Since LV was sold out of 316 when I ordered my cuboid, I ordered this. It's obnoxious that it doesn't have a spool, but other than that, it's been working fairly well.
I use locking pin backs. https://www.amazon.com/SUBANG-Pieces-Locking-Keepers-Storage/dp/B01LYS7N9J
Haven't lost a pin yet! (i have a lot of pins on my denim vest i wear to punk rock shows :3)
I got these on amazon and they work great they don’t require a tool to lock and unlock but won’t come off unintentionally

So is this stuff G-Plat?
Yes! It's so cute. It came a teensie bit tarnished, but it cleaned right up.
Just buy a converter set:
https://www.amazon.com/Clip-Earring-Converter-Pair-Turn/dp/B007X5M55I
Here ya go. You might have to do a search for other gauges but that's the exact listing I bought mine under
Safe? Doesn't say uncoated but other people have used it.
you might try these, converts pierced earrings to clip on http://www.amazon.com/Clip--Earring-Converter-Pair-Turn/dp/B007X5M55I/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1375108018&sr=8-6&keywords=earring+clips
Couple 26 gauge still left on Amazon still
Locking Pin Backs, yo
I keep mine on a bag. But DON'T use the rubber mickey backs. I use these and if you use them correctly, the pins don't go anywhere:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K5354SO/ref=asc_df_B01K5354SO5421953/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=395033&creativeASIN=B01K5354SO&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198090893745&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8326476712187818639&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9029858&hvtargid=pla-319846619648
What kind of locking backs are you using? I use these ones and don't have that problem.
If you're scared of losing them, order these pin backs from Amazon. They hold very securely and the pins won't fall off.

There are Military Locking Pin Backs as one style
Or what disney and such pin collectors use
Shop around for the allen wrench style, it's going to be one of the most commonly stolen items from Disney theme parks and then dumped out there for resale
edit: changed the allen wrench one to a 50 piece set. Might be even larger ones out there
