This is an update to my build last year, which can be seen [HERE] (https://imgur.com/a/kplph). The cat is still there, she just didn't want to pose this year :)

Hey, 1500+ hours in-game. I've played a thousand hours with a cheap $30 headset from Amazon, both with surround sound on and off. I've also played with Audio Technica M50x's and several other mid-range headphones. Currently I play with a set of semi-open back headphones.
Some tips:
Those are my soundwhoring tips. My current setup is a pair of AKG M220 semi-open back headphones and the Creative SoundBlaster Omni amp. I always play with Windows volume at 50 and in-game master volume at 80. Pretty loud, but it gets the job done and I don't find it uncomfortable unless it's for very long periods of time (5+ hours).

Not too expensive. The K240's are also good, pretty much industry standard, if you'd rather black than white

Cloud 1 are the best you can get at that price point.

do you have the amp to drive an AKG M220?
Buy links for the M220 and the earpads (these are kinda expensive in the US wtf, in Germany they cost 20 bucks. I'd say it's still worth it.) Make sure you buy the original beyerdynamics earpads and not some fakes.
I also love how the amazon reviews of the M220 basically just reinstate what I said about the M220 lol, especially the review of Eric K.
I have purchased these (AKG M220 Semi Open) headphones. I would like a recommendation on an amp, dac, or sound card (new to this stuff, don't know which one I need) to increase the bass. Thanks!
Hi recently picked up a SMSL sApII and a SMSL Sanskrit 6th
I am currently using a pair of [AKG M220s] (https://www.amazon.com/AKG-M220-Professional-Definition-Headphones/dp/B0155DGHUI/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1478134127&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=akg+m220)
Music sounds great with this set up but when I'm gaming the sound cuts out at loud moments in a game or when there are a lot of sounds going on.
Currently I have the DAC connected with usb. In my speaker properties I have the format set to 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality). But the issue seems to happen no matter the quality I set that to. I keep my pc volume around 60% and the in game master volume around 50% and the knob is at 50% (If that matters.)
Any help would be appreciated thanks!
Got AKG M220 and using the MSI Z97 G5 motherboard - do I need a DAC?
The motherboard seems to have some audio benefits but that may just be random marketing bullshit. I use the headphones for gaming only (AntLion 4.0 mic is being shipped as well if that makes any difference since some DACs have mic slot).

That's a tough question in this price range. The ATH-AD500x is around $70 and will offer substantially better soundstage and imaging at the price of bass.
The AKG K240 or M220 are between $60 and $70 and are harder to drive and a little more neutral.
